Update: I actually tried to make a video game off of her "sTOrY" but it's just as bad as the books and artwork, oh and I kept her from when I was 4 all the way to 9 years old. Then I created even cringier OCs!

book

My very first was a self insert, but thank goodness I got over that in the first year.

@Leiko

Mine was a spider siren hybrid named Ella, she was in all of my fav tv shows, and i still use her to this. but only in my head.

@Mindful_Bison

I've never technically made an OC unless D&D characters count. In that case, it would be Tennyth Melton, your typical Elven mage. I never got a chance to play as him though, so I never had the opportunity to explore his personality.

@9th Overlord

My first and worst was a female named Meara or something like that, who was loosely based off myself. She had no personality and was OP. She could shapeshift into any animal (real and fantasy). All i made her do was fight bad guys and be angsty by talking all cryptic and emo. I was 14 and very much a suppressed emo haha. The idea of her stuck with me though and I really began flushing her out and nerfing her years later. Now her name is Skya and she can only shift into a tiger form. She's still not my best character, but shes a lot better than she use to be!

degdeg

My first 'real' OC was this girl named Reimei Suzumiya and she was a Gothic romance vampire thingy. Oh my god. She wasn't all that bad, like, she wasn't story-breaking overpowered or anything, but she was this super weird mix of Yuuki Cross from Vampire Knight, Karin Maaka from Chibi Vampire, and Ivy Vega from My Sister the Vampire??? Yeah, I was pretty obsessed with vampires in my childhood lol. So like she was super damsel-in-distress-y but then she could also beat up other vampires in a fight sometimes so now that I think about it she's probably plastic af lol.

MY WORST OC WAS THIS EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN KUROSHITSUJI THAT I TRIED TO PUT IN SEBASTIAN'S BED AND I HATE HER LMAO

@Dazzling Dragon

My technical first OC was a roleplay character named Misty. She, and even her brother, Stalker, weren't actually anything special. Their characterization was flimsy and they did things that didn't make sense, but whatever. They were, of course, bad, but like them and most of my early characters, they existed for about a month then I never used them again after their relevant roleplay ended.

The character I want to talk about is a character I still have and cherish to this day: Lisa Adrean Adeptus. She began as a witch with wings, devil horns, and goofy cat ears, tail, and eyes. She was also a shapeshifter that couldn't control her powers at all. She'd turn into random things at random times to lead to totally random shenanigans. In my first roleplay with her, she was a sweet-hearted ditz, but by the second time I played her, she had done a complete face-heel turn. She became paranoid, cold, distrustful, developed a vitriolic wit, and eventually earned herself the MOST TRAGIC BACKSTORY EVER (that she still kind of has).

Her silly physical appearance and edginess aside, she wouldn't have been a "bad" character then if I had been better at writing the personality traits that I assigned her. Just like my first few OCs, I didn't always play her the way I described her and so she did stuff that made no sense, like kidnapping someone who tried to kill her, begging demon hunters to be allowed to adventure with them, and just trusting people that she really shouldn't be trusting. At some point down the road, her shapeshifting got limited to three forms: cat, crow, and giant monster cat. Her powers and appearance got explained not through witchcraft, but through her being a transdimensional half demon, half angel.

In short, the poor girl was a hot mess because I didn't know how to write.

But I got better. And so did she. Gone are the days of her edgy half-demon glory.

@jolene clayton That post was a rollercoaster start to finish lol

My first fandom OC was a Harry Potter self-insert. She had my first name and was Harry's twin that was never mentioned, for whatever reason. She also kept switching between me putting her dialogue in as I read and her being a ghost.
Literally I'm dying. Just. Aaa.

My first non fandom OC was… Misty? I think? Either Misty or Alicia. Misty was severely undeveloped and basically all I knew was that she loved her phone.
Alicia was a part of me and she fangirled. A lot.

That's all, I think.

@Hawkeye

Dear god…. are y’all ready for this crap?
My first oc that I can remember was named Rebecca. Everyone called her Becca. She had a lot of siblings(I want to say 11?) and they were all girls except for her twin brother, Jax. She was Mother Nature, but her ‘powers’ only came up when it was good for the stituation. Like that’s not even what the story was about. It was just a thing she had. Anyway, she had this evil uncle who like locked her in a basement without food because she talked back….? I don’t even know. One of her sisters like really hated her and broke her arm twice or something. He parents got divorced and then her dad died in a car crash. Her brother hated the dad but then when the dad died the brother kind of went nuts. I don’t know. They went to a theme park near my hometown(I live in a town near Branson, Missouri, so they went to Silver Dollar City) And almost died on a water ride. It was intense. My friends still make fun of me about it.

book

Not as bad as it could be.

@Dazzling Dragon

Yeah, could be a lot worse. xD I…don't talk much about my first-first OCs. I'm not sure if I can call them OCs because they had almost no characterizat- No. Wait. Misty could exit her body as a ghost at will. Actually, considering my current story contains OP pyromancing dragons, shapeshifters and ill-defined talking animals, that power's not bad.

Oh, and her brother was a werewolf. Somehow.

I think one of my very early writing problems was that I defined my characters by their special abilities more than their actual personalities.

book

Nice that you are able to define it. Easy mistake to make. I too have fallen into that trap on occasion.

@Dazzling Dragon

That was like, my BIG issue when I first started writing and I'd like to think I've fixed it by now.

@Hawkeye

Omg! I forgot to tell y’all the very worst parts: so A) she had this crazy uncle(I may have mentioned him in the first post) and he set up this weird obstacle course they had to finish(all of them, the youngest kid being like 2) and it somehow involved lava(old dude, southern Missouri, no idea how I thought that worked) and jumping from super high window. Her sister almost died and the main character just laughed at her nearly dead sister because she hated her. And then she won, but her uncle got mad that she won(I don’t know what he was expecting to happen) and knocked her unconscious.
B) her brother apparently was like committing crimes without anyone figuring it out or telling their parents, but it was ok because a bully was making him do it. Then the main character was mad because he didn’t say anything and then like shoved the bully in a cave(can’t quite remember the context there) and left. When he escaped she was confused and now that I think about it, what was she expecting to happen? And her brothers crimes were like really bad, like somehow stealing over a million dollars and getting into fights for the bully.

As someone who lives in Missouri, I can tell you that lava obstacle courses only exist in our Minecraft servers. And they usually aren't created by old men.

@Hawkeye

I know right? Have you been to Silver Dollar City?

My first OC was made when I was 7. Her name was Alisa and she had about as much personality as a piece of cardboard. She lived in a world where there were no plants and it was entirely barren except for dead grass and tree stumps other than the mansion she lived in with her evil uncle (although they were somehow able to eat grapes and bread without any plants. I don't know what was going through my mind). Her uncle turns out to be death and she runs away. At the end of the book, she becomes a goddess and brings life to the world even though she didn't have a single character trait.

book

That is terrible.

book

That sounds mean.

Kiley

my first OC was an earlier version of my current MC, Camari Blackwell.
She was very different from my current MC.
For one, her name was Luna Castro
She had black hair and blue eyes
she was a princess
She was not fleshed out at all.
She had two older brothers and one older sister.
She did not have any powers.
She had never killed anyone before.
She was rich
She had both her parents.
She was 16 years old

My current MC:
Her name is Camari Blackwell
She has blond hair and green eyes
She is a public figure, but not anything close to a princess
She's very fleshed out
She has a twin brother and one younger brother
She has 16 different fire powers
She has a body count of twenty-seven
she's poor
both her parents (and twin brother) abandoned her and her younger brother when she was seven and he was four
She is fifteen years old.

book

Not a bad evolution.

The first character that I came up with (Aged like seven or eight lol) was basically myself but secretly a spy. I was writing a story with characters that were all based on my friends. I don't think I even changed the names lol. I had some more characters based on my friends about age nine or ten but they were all actual characters. They could each turn into a different animal, it was based off of a dream I had I think lol. I had a bunch more characters I roleplayed as at primary school but my first real oc was a dragon called Silver Comet.

Oh my god this actually sounds pretty similar to my first story. The main character was a self insert and her two friends were based on two of my closest friends at the time. I scrapped the two friend characters and replaced them because I found them to be too boring (The shade!)
All the characters were from a parallel universe where everyone could turn into a different animal that was meant to reflect their personality. But since I was super obsessed with horses, all the characters could turn into a different horse breed that reflected their personalities. The only one who couldn't turn into a horse was the main villain, and he was a wolf.

@The-N-U-T-Cracker

My first OC was Pinkie Pie. Yes, the My Little Pony character. I watched that show (the older version) when I was little and started making up stories about how she's actually a superhero that fights monsters and villains with my stuffed animals and Link and Batman and all sorts of characters from a bunch of different universes, however, it wasn't really pinkie pie, just an OC of the same name and design because back then I was too dumb to actually come up with characters of my own. I actually tried to write a book off of her using Word and MS Paint (I was 7 btw) and… You can probably guess how that turned out. I think I still have the documents so I might be able to show you all a chapter or some of my *cough * …"ARTWORK".

Update: I found the stories:

one day a unicorn queen named rarity was haveing a baby. her husband, starcacher, was flying up to the clouds with rarity on his back. when they were on the clouds. rarity got off starcacher and soon she had her baby. as soon as the baby was born, she flew off the clouds on starcacher. the baby's name was pinkie pie. she had to explore the clouds and jump off the cloud before her 6 hour timer runs out. so, she went to explore. on the way she met link. soon, they became the best of friends. then, a 5 year old was being mean to link, and then pinkie came. she saw link was in trouble and she was so strong she scared off the 5 year old. and soon the big minute came. then link jumped on her back to go down to explore ponyville. soon pinkie realized she had wings and a horn! so, she jumped off, spread out her wings and flew down with her friend. she was a very good flyer! they had a party. a pony's cutie mark is created by the first thing they do when they jump off the clouds, so pinkie got ballons. when she was 1, she saw a hero named thor, he saved her life. (only because she was cute and small, orelse she woldve saved herself.) when she was 2, though, she got struck by lightning. she was ok, in fact, she got special powers: she was as fast as lightning, she could shoot fireballs, she was heat resistant, she could become invisible, when she gets mad she becomes an AWESOME fire monster. but the bad thing is, she can not be cold, wet or shot with an arrow or as you probably have already figured out: she will die. after she got those abilities, she met three magical talking animals: flower, bess, and honey. they had powers too, to heal themselves, but that was useless because they were invincible. so pinkie taught them how to heal others, and by "heal" she found out that they really meant bring themselves back to life when they were DEAD! so they helped pinkie survive the winters, and there was almost no problems in ponyville ever again.

                                                       the end.

one day, pinkie pie was strolling along the galaxies in her space rider (invisible rocketship powered by light) looking for an undiscovered planet. when she saw the milky way, no other pony had before! she named it the starry hole. knew she would find a planet there! & she saw jupiter, (she named it "redy planet") saturn, (she named it "precious") neptune, (she named it "dolphin planet") & all the other planets, but she loved earth the most. (she had no idea what to name it though, so she called it "nothingness2" nothingness1 is pinkies planet) she wanted to name this weird galaxy, so she called it "the starry hole galaxy" she wanted to visit each one in case she would find something. & when she visited nothingness2, she had a big suprise! huge buildings, lots of wierd slow thingys (cars at lightning's point of view) and even slower LIVING thingys, (humans) but soon she saw iron man, captain america & all the other avengers. she slowly landed her rocket behind a trash can, but the avengers spotted her almost INSTANTLY! (its hard not to spot you when you light the building behind you on fire)

                                                                                             the end.

chapter 1~ sappire star~ one day pinkie was doing her daliy duty of protecting ponyville when she rembered she was supposed to go to the clouds to have a baby. When she got there she had one cute Little blue unicorn baby with a brown mane and tail. "she is so cute!" said pinkie. She named her sappire star.

chapter 2~ danger~ when she got home she wanted to tell the others about how protecting ponyville went but she wanted to help her baby learn how to use her tiny little horn to do magic first. but as soon as she finished someone broke in, and set the house on fire. that would not be a bad thing becuse fire heals pinkie. but her kids are not the same. "girls, come here! we all have to get out!" said pinkie. to escape, pinkie had to break a window, grab all three of her kids, and jump out of the house. that is a lot of danger.

chapter 3~ not safe~
pinkie had to get some ponys to take care of her kids wile she was gone getting food from the berry bush and helping her pets at the farm getting milk and eggs from the cows and chickens. it was fun, but she had to make sure that she did not get hurt. she knew that her kids were fine. but that same guy came in, and pinkie lost all her powers! and he was going to kill her! "help!" shouted pinkie. no one heard her. that, is not safe.

chapter 4~ the story of kids~
but then a thing that was good and bad happened to pinkie, it was her kids! they were comeing to save her! that is the good thing, the bad thing is they are not very good at it yet. and pinkie was stuck, with no powers, and running as far as possible. she must have been very lucky becuse the first thing sappire learned was how to give pinkie her powers back! and sappire did it! that, is the story of kids.

                                                                    the end.

Note: I made an album of the cringey artwork I made too

Another note: GRAMMARLY IS GOING NUTS HERE- It's detected 63 spelling errors and 101 premium errors, that's how bad this is

^ Ahh, smol me not understanding how children work

@CoolBeanz

Ah yes…. Beccany Hashbrom. A "I have older brothers and that's why I can fight" Mary Sue of a scoundrel. As you might be able to tell from the name, I created her when I was 9.

@CoolBeanz

@"NutEllaDraws (There Will Be NO CURSING On My GOOD CHRISTIAN SERVER)" Yeah, that's a pretty accurate representation of how smol ones write. Also, I don't think any children firmly grasp how children work.

group

I forgot her name but she was Timmy Turner's sister who was the straight man and stuff. She also could see the fairies for some reason.

@Leshierian

My first original character was named Jaya Coray (Now Jacob Coray), he was a fourteen year old demi-god type thing with mind powers. I made him when I was twelve.
Here's a link to drawings of him and the comic I started about him. The cringe is pretty self explanatory.

@Rover3672

My first real oc was possibly my most Mary Sue character used to be Taylor…she was a princess of a lost kingdom that after some VERY tragic events become one of the most powerful creatures to exists….half human half demon too! I don’t wanna write everything but she was the most Mary Sue I’ve ever written, I still have Taylor as my cast but I’ve overhauled her character to be better, still needs some work done but I hate getting rid of characters so I’m gonna make it work.
