what is the weirdest name you've given to a character?

since neither Dacry or Deppa are creative with names… well, orphan. The orphan.

Dude, this reminds me of my boy who got named water (Haidraqo) by his fisherman father. Y'know, because I couldn't bear to give all the squad new names after the dumb ones I did.

That's pretty neat

Lol Why?

Like you said, people familiar with latin can identify the root words. "Haidr"-"aqo", like "hydro" and "aqua" for water (I assume), because of his fisherman father. It's good for the audience, makes them feel intelligent, which makes it fun to read. They get something extra, something niche within your world. Even if it is one name, I'm sure there are more examples of this in your work.

Oh. That made me feel good. Thank you. I like the idea of someone studied in language being able to read a bit of Menna just off that experience.

Chicken Tendies

pleximo. literally no clue why

@berlioz

Even still, those in your audience who aren't language buffs will still be able to feel the language. We have words like hydroflask and aquaman all around us, making their associations with water inside everyone's mind. Even if some readers don't hear water, they can't help but feel the name's meaning. Ok I'm done hyper-analyzing Haidraqo lol.

Dust, because I liked the sound of it (English is not my native language). I looked in an English dictionary for names.
But later in that week I thought "but that's really stupid" and read more the dictionary and found "Dusk" which is much better for my character.

Oh thank you. It is quite the compliment.

Kuroko.

He's a tiny 14 year old Asian boy.

I needed a random name for an extra character yesterday and named a him Trap. His guide dog is named Chicago, nicknamed Chicca. So far this is actually the weirdest I got.

A few from my world:

~Zarnasna
~Celosia
~Hellauder, Destroyer of Men
~Yeseo
~Lady Nidatri
~Lord Mutaro

Ana'Leah I just liked the name and wanted to be extra with the spelling (it is for a novel)

Lennie B

Anemone, Ridley, Ivanna, Aeslin, Hyacinth, Tulia, Kianna, Alastair, Phoenix, Vora and Greene. Most of these were for fantasy stories.

Lennie B

Ajax, Corvina and Draquesha are even weirder. Draquesha was pronounced "Drah-key-shah", not "Dray-kwee-shah". I just thought it sounded nice.

Haruki?

(Cool, cool. Why'd you name him/her that?)

Oh. Well, I was going for a Japanese name. This came to mind. In the story, I usually use the name "Haru".

Haruki isn't a weird name though. It's just not an English name.

The chat title, Lizzie.
I agree with Nie, it's a bit insensitive to classify a name as "weird" because it's from another culture :/

Scrapped character named Gestille. Not my weirdest, but not my best. She's a former siren who left her sisters because she was in love with a mortal man. Also, named a boy Idgar. The old writer's trick: when you run out of original names, just change a letter or two in a normal one.

Remy

It would have to be Dearest, Elegance, or Bom
