Karina gave a quick pat to Salem before standing and walking over to Aquila. Her steps were heavy and she was obviously angry. It made it worse that he didn't even return her gaze. "What is with you?" she asked, voice upset. She waited a moment before continuing. "You were the first person who seemed to care about how I felt and now you're just being a jerk!" She seemed more upset than anything at this point. Alpha and Cassie had made fun of her mother at one point and now Aquila continued looking at her like she was simply the earth beneath his feet. The only one who hadn't said much was Vesper, but he seemed to be following Aquila. It was quite the opposite of how she was usually treated, praised and wanted only because of her parents. Sighing, Karina turned away and began walking along the sidewalk. "I'm going back… since you can't stand to even look at me."
Good, a part of him thought. Fantastic. All his relations were cold now. Abso-freaking-lutely wonderful. “Are you so desperate for attention, that a person who doesn’t think you’re special is a jerk?” he called out. His eyes widened and gut twisted, confusion warring with the dignity in Aquila’s eyes. He opened his mouth to apologize. “I’m sorry I don’t find you the best fucking person on the planet - and the moon - because of your parents.” He didn’t know why he was taunting her. He didn’t know how he’d lost control. He didn’t know anything. At some point, he registered that he was yelling. The remaining ice cream fell into the trash can, and he lifted his incinerating glare to her retreating form. “Your stardamned parents,” he hissed, true hatred laced in his voice. He let the thought slither on the sidewalk and recaptured it, right before it hit Karina.
She simply stopped in her tracks. It wasn't her fault that she didn't know what a friend was like. She only knew fake smiles and false compliments. She thought someone had finally cared about her instead of who she was supposed to be. Karina never liked crying. It made her feel like the weak helpless little princess everyone probably assumed she was. The warm tears came however. They surfaced and fell down her cheeks, a few running over her lips. She bit her bottom lip, almost hard enough for it to bleed. It forced her attention back to the burning anger that was mixed with hurt.
"Are you that stupid?!" Karina asked. Karina still had tears running down her cheeks. Karina couldn't get them to stop. Karina didn't want this.
"I don't expect that out of you. If you had paid attention, you'd know that being treated like that is the thing I hate the most! It's all fake!" she yelled. Karina was shaking, arms wrapped around her to try and stop the tremors. Her nails bit into her flesh, making indents. She stopped there, not allowing the skin to break. Self harm was not the answer. Ever.
"You think it's fun for me to have so many damn expectations for how I'm supposed to be? People only see their own assumption of me and not who I am. Guess I called you accordingly. You're no different," Karina finished. The princess finished.
