When Vic reached the forest, Charming had to slow. The air seemed a lot cooler in the shade. They had been riding for almost half an hour by now and they were barely a tenth of the way there. But he knew Anulle was worth it.
Alexia slowed Poe down when he saw that Vic had and she smiled. She closed her eyes and let the coolness of the shade remind her of her home, "Even this temperature is nice," She said as she motioned to the shade.
Pine waited silently in the sunny grass, hearing Lotus walk off. He closed his eyes, held onto the grass, listened to the breeze. After exactly ten minutes he swallowed and stood. He couldn't let himself start thinking. He placed a hand on his face and started to pace in the trees, eyes too wide behind his fingers.
Victor bit his tongue. "Yes, at least in the summer. You grew up in the cold, right?"
She nodded, "Yes, I'm not very fond of heat for that reason." She shifted in the saddle and looked at him.
Lotus woke slightly from her nap feeling much less tired then before. She wasn't sure exactly how long she had been asleep, but she had enough energy to keep her illusion up for the rest of the journey. She took a deep breath and began to weave her illusion again. The hardest part was to get it exactly as it had been when she left and an account for terrain and time.
It felt like it had been a long time to Pine. No sign of Lotus. Pine dropped his hand, tried to let out a breath, and turned to look for her. Didn't know why he liked her. He heard a breath, so he aimed through the thorns in that direction.
"I get it." Victor sighed. "Auselian has hot summers and cool winters, so me and my brothers get a taste of both. The mountains are always freezing, though."
"Now I'm looking forward to the mountains," She smiled and patted Poe's neck, looking around the forest.
Lotus heard footsteps in her direction. She wasn't sure if it was Pine or someone else. They were in the forest it could be anyone, she figured it would be best for her to finish her illusion. She felt the finally parts weave themselves into place and she turned to face where the noise was from.
There was Lotus, turning to face him. Pine summoned up a smile, looking away. "Are you all right?"
Victor nodded. "You won't be homesick there." The forest seemed to be never ending.
Lotus smiled back and glanced down at the floor, "Yes, I'm fine. I must've fallen asleep on accident."
Alexia looked around, "I'm never homesick.. that place could be taken over and I wouldn't care, I would just miss the cold weather..and maybe my brother and mom..but not my father." She looked over at Victor and then focused ahead of them.
Pine's hand twitched. "You were that tired?"
"Really?" Victor turned in the saddle, raising one red eyebrow. "Why?"
Lotus shrugged as she sighed, "I suppose so, I didn't feel tired."
"He's a….jerk to say the least," She said, focusing ahead of them. Her fingers started to grow colder again and she stopped petting Poe, worried that she might freeze him, "I know he runs a country, but he forced my mother into a marriage she didn't want, and he's not the best father figure in the world..he tends to take his anger out on others." The tips of her fingers slowly were turning a frost blue and she curled them into a fist so that Victor couldn't tell.
Pine watched her. "Do you want to go back to the carriage or wait?"
"Like you?" Vic looked at Alexia's fisted hands, brows lowering.
She just gave a slight nod in answer, knowing that all of her fingers were frost blue now, "Not just me though," She looked down at her horse and shook her head, "My mother doesn't deserve to go through what she goes through because of him."
"We can go back to the carriage," Lotus responded with a smile. She would keep her illusion up for now, maybe at some point she would let it down for him. But not today.
