Um… is woodworking cool? We have a kind of home-skills klass were we learn to do stuff like cooking, cleaning, washing, a bit economy and those kind of things too. In the sewing class that is actually called ’textile crafts’ we also learn to knit and stuff like that.
European time zones, anyone?
!!!!! That is all very very cool!!!
Haha thanks

Over here we have woodwork and product design, textiles, and home economics (more commonly known as food technology)
We didn't really have stuff like that at our school, at least not in the higher year levels… It was incredibly academically focused. Academics and sports.
But I've also left, so who knows what kind of classes they're offering now

Fair enough, to be honest I haven't been at school for 2 years so I have no idea what the curriculum is like now. It used to be English, Maths, Science, a language, a humanity subject, RE, ICT, DT, PD, FT, Textiles, Art, Performing Arts, and PE. When I reached year 9, everything changed for exams and stuff so I only did English, Maths, Science, History, Art, French, RE, and ICT. If I could go back, I would have taken Music instead of RE because boi that crap was boring (only thing I liked about RE was the fact there were only 2 or 3 of us in the class)
I used to have 1-2-1 singing sessions, but then because I didn't take Music for my exams they cut my sessions..
It was also really stupid when it came to languages. I was taught French when I was at secondary school (aged 11-16), because they told me I wasn't "dumb enough to do Spanish" (basically calling everyone who had to do Spanish as their language, idiots).
When I was in year 3 I was taught Chinese and French, year 7 I was taught German, Italian, Spanish and French, then from Year 8 until I left I was taught French. It was so stupid..
I am learning German right now. We had the opportunity to choose a fourth language as well, but I chose to work at the school paper instead. Sadly, the paper was cancelled for my grade (the other grades were still working on it though) because not enough people wanted to do it and every grade had sepparate classes for school paper. Instead, I had to take some kind of stupid ’meditation and balance’-class for the entire year, cause there were no other spots available in the other classes.
I’m in school and we are talking politics… Everyone is arguing and debatting and I am super bored, politics don’t interest me at all honestly… Anyone online?

Y'all also lowkey on fire bc of the elections?
Exactly
Same
Although my class is more like highkey on fire… there are debates and discussions almost 24/7
It's a struggle… I'm not at school anymore so I'm glad that's not an issue for me
But the news and the German speaking Internet are kind of also high key on fire

I just ignore everything to do with politics. I don't want any part in it, therefore I keep myself blind to what goes on. Besides, the more I hear about the government and stuff the more I think about what could happen in the future and boy does it make me upset
Right now I feel like all the political parties in Sweden are complete messes, so I too try to stay out of it as much as I can. It’s a hit hard to stay blind to it though since it’s on the news all the time and talking about it in school is part of our education and something we get grades on.

See now I just don't read the news, and since I know that people are going to be talking about it in the street I always put my earphones in (I literally mean always), and in college people don't really talk about it, but then again I wouldn't know since I always have my earphones in. The only time I don't have my earphones in is when I'm at home or at work. I literally don't hear anything about the news or anything unless I accidentally walk in on my parents watching the news (and even that is rare)
My issue with that approach is that I'd feel bad for being ignorant. I feel like a lot of bad things happen (in politics) because people don't care enough. And then the people who have harmful agendas can do their thing because the rest of us aren't stopping them you know?

That’s kind of how I feel too. I want to ignore it but I feel like I shouldn’t?
The struggle is real

Yeah I understand where you are coming from, but I'm just a 17 year old girl, I can't do much
I feel ya
I mean I think Greta Thunberg is like… 16?? and she's on the news like every other day at this point
But we can't all be political activists
Don't forget she's a Nobel nominee
Also she's 15
*admiration for her intensifies *
She's also on the spectrum I believe
I think some of my friends met her a while ago when they were at a demonstration that she had arranged at Medborgarplatsen… We had a school strike for climate a while ago, a lot of the students in my school went. My class had a competition at the university tho so we couldn’t go.
She was in Germany last year at some point, I believe - we definitely still have Fridays for Future demonstrations all the time in my town. I don't go because of work but they're quite loud
I think what she’s doing is great, but I feel like a bit of it is for the wrong reason. I don’t know if you know about it, but her parents are pretty famous here in Sweden, and I don’t really think that it’s a coincidence that they realeased a book just before all this started, and that she wrote a chapter in it. Even though it’s good what she’s doing, I feel like a part of it might just be to sell their book more, and I’m not the only one who believes that. Also one part of why her entire thing is so big is because of that her parents are famous and have contacts… but I guess it’s fine as long as it’s for a good cause.
Huh I didn't know that! That's really interesting!
Yeah, her mom is an opera singer and her dad is an actor
