AWESOME! I've learned as a beginner with a shitton of weapons, mostly throwing-knives, throwing-axes, shuriken (that's why 'Shuri' is in my user), but also a glaive and a Viking shortsword!

duel wielding is awesome but id rather have lone long sword and a dirk or something similar. That way you are capable of a range of attacks & blocks
Well it depends what you mean by those. A short sword is a three foot blade, and blocking is pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
