16 was pretty good for me. I couldn't go to the zoo (upsetting my 3 or 4 year tradition) so that kind of sucked, but everything else was very nice.

I don't have a good track record for birthdays

@berlioz

I mean personally I don't really care about how old I am and just like my birthday because it means that I get stuff.

Same. Birthdays are kinda bittersweet/sad to me. Like I love making a big deal out of my friend's birthdays, because it's a random reason to celebrate, but every birthday that passes they have a less likely chance of making it to the next one which is weird to think about.

I'm extremely tempted to break the rule, but I don't want Eris's wrath.

@croccin-champagne

so people just make it more important than your other birthdays?

also looking back on it, it's something that i've seen touched on in media? but only for girls.

I'm a materialistic ho who likes having things (and has a special interest in collecting Star Wars figures) and that's my favorite part of my birthday, plus the fact that I get attention, which I do occasionally like.
Otherwise it's just a general sort of existential dread.

Yeah it's a weirdly girl-centric thing
Maybe because it's an easy way to get a fancy party scene/sleepover/celebration?

My friends' birthdays are fun. I go to the dollar store and get them (and myself) candy because usually I only have a few dollars if any, and I tell them happy birthday at least once and try to make their day not suck as much as I can without doing a ton. My friend had a surprise party for her sweet sixteen and I wasn't there for the surprise part, but the rest was fun

My friend makes amazing birthday cards, and this year she sent me a video saying she was listing her top 10 favorite things about me or something like that and after 1 or 2 it slowly devolved into a rickroll.
I love her.

What kind of figures? I only know of Pop figurines.

Long inhale
Well I've collected the Hasbro 3.75 inch scale since I was six (so over 10 years now, which is crazy!) and if I had to guess, I would say I have around 400 of them? And I've been slowly building up my Black Series collection (6 inch scale) for 4 years and have probably around 50. I play my coupons and giftcards well lol.

i was gonna make a comment on how a lot of people wait for girls to turn sixteen because that's when they're legally able to have sex with adults but that too

I don't really celebrate my birthdays, I don't see the point:
16th, I had to share with my mother converting to Catholicism,
I don't remember my 17th,
18th, my mum got me drunk.
Anything before 16 I don't remember, and I don't want to remember because I feel bad about it.

Yeah that as well
I guess when you said "girl" my mind went to little girls and how almost every book/tv series for that demographic has some sort of birthday story (American Girl, for example, always has a book where the girl has a birthday, and in the older doll's books they would specifically have one devoted to a birthday. My sister was big into the Rainbow Fairies, and they specifically had 5 books dedicated to the birthday fairies).
Most of the books with male characters didn't seem to have this focus though? Like in Harry Potter and Percy Jackson we don't ever have chapters dedicated to what gifts their friends give them and what they're wearing and their party and everything (though HP kinda does that at Christmas instead)

For kids to have sex with kids, in the US, the age of consent is 16, but I think you have to be 18 to have sex with like, an Adult Adult (like, 30), but I think there's some extra junk about 16 year olds and 18 year olds. Not really sure and I'm not particularly invested
