(Lmao try 45)

45?!?!?!

Wait lemme see how long the longest chapter in this book is
I forget which chapter my teacher said was the longest but it was one of these two
Queer Lodgings- 28
Flies and Spiders- 31
Looks like it’s Flies and Spiders. 31 pages. (I’m glad she read those chapters to us)

(We’re reading The Hobbit btw. Which, I like the plot, but the chapters are too long and the print is too small and close together so I can’t focus)

To be fair, I’m a sophomore in college

I’m in 8th grade honors reading

book

Well, I have trouble focusing on books as it is, and long chapters (+ small print) makes it a lot harder

THE CHAPTER I HAVE TO READ TONIGHT FOR HOMEWORK
IS 18 PAGES
18
PAGES
TOO MUCH

Most people finished it in class! I only read like 4 pages because I couldn’t focus!

Me. Wait, The Hobbit? That's an easy read though…

I wish I got to read The Hobbit for school

book

It's so good.

@ElderGod-Icefire

did someone say The Hobbit? okay but that's legitimately my favorite book of like…all time

long chapters are the best though??

honestly I hardly even acknowledge chapters when I read. I plow through books like how I eat chocolate chip muffins.

@Kinarymo

oyyy, The Hobbit was so good

Yeah, same.

Idk, I prefer shorter chapters so I can read in smaller increments, but long chapters work fine if written well. That said, it's been a long time since I've read for pleasure.

I prefer chapters on the shorter side because I mostly read at night before I go to bed. Ideally, I like to read at least one chapter every night and a lot of times I'm pretty tired so that's easier when chapters are shorter. I find that around 10 pages is usually a pretty reasonable length for me.

book

This sounds like you are a conscientious reader. Wth tbh. How even? I either read or I am not reading. That’s about it.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Dude, the only time I have ever done that was with Les Mis, and that was because I needed to make sure I actually slept, lol

book

Did you find the part on Waterloo excessively boring? I had some trouble getting through that.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Oof yes. It was…long. That and the monologue about the fricking sewers lol

book

Honestly the sewer jokes are one of my favorite parts of the fandom.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Yeah true. But still. Victor Hugo knows a lot of words. And concise. Is not one of them

book

Amen.

@ElderGod-Icefire

My brother asked why his sentences were so long and i replied with "because Victor Hugo had a love affair with semi colons". And…I still feel like that sums it up pretty well lol

book

LOL!!!

@ElderGod-Icefire

I also had the shittiest copy ever, so. The print was tiny and the pages were small, and…god. I can't even describe it. It was terrible

Victor Hugo just couldn't let anything go until he had complained about it for at least 20 million pages

book

He was certainly verbose.

I can imagine your pain.

@Kinarymo

I read The hunchback of Notre Dame and dear god, that was the only book where i skipped pages because of all the damn building descriptions. I wanna know what happens to the characters, i dont need a detailed description of the whole block

War and Peace is good so far, but dear GOD does it drag….

@Relsey-TheElder

I didn't skip any of Le Mis for bragging rights so now I'm using them.

book

Same. I always read all the way through on my first go.
