Verdict slid his fingers over Conner's eyelids to close them, then used his weapon to cut the hero signet out of Conner's clothing. He always did that with the heroes he killed– kept their logo as a trophy. Once he had finished that, his work was done. He hadn't come for the other heroes, nor had he come for the people in the burning building. He came for Conner, and now that Conner was dead, his work for today was done.
As swiftly as he appeared, he vanished.

Meanwhile, the limp Dimitri eventually started to stir. His eyes fluttered open a bit, though he struggled to regain consciousness. "Wh– Where– He–" he sputtered, confused and dazed. As if he suddenly remember what was going on, he gasped. Before he could spew out any of his internal panic, one of the beams in the ceiling caved in, causing pieces of the roof to collapse to the floor– and the flames only grew. Though neither Dimitri nor Ally were harmed, it startled Dimitri further, and he shrieked.

group

This caused Ally to let go, and stumble backwards. "Don't do that!" She yelled at him, going into a coughing fit. She was not able to stop the burning tears from coming anymore. The building was producing so much smoke, she couldn't see anything. Including Dimitri.
"Where are you?" She sputtered, pushing up off the ground. Her heart beat faster, and faster, causing her to start acting on impulse. Standing up, she stumbled around to try and find him. "I…I can't find… you."
Her balance was thrown, as her foot hit his leg. Or she hoped was his leg. 'Please don't be a dead body, please…' She begged, crouching down just slightly.

@Moriarty

"I'm– here," Dimitri wheezed in response. "I can't see– or breath–" he choked weakly, his voice quivering. He felt around, but the smoke in the air was too thick for him to see through. His fingers felt the ground around him, but he couldn't find anything except for pieces of small rubble and dust that had fallen from the ceiling. "I'm not going to make it," he wailed weakly, before descending into a fit of violent coughs. He felt too weak to stand, considering the amount of smoke he'd inhaled– not to mention, his willpower wasn't the strongest to begin with. "The building is going to collapse–"
As if on cue, another crashing noise sounded nearby, undoubtedly more fiery boards falling loose.

group

A scream came from her lips, as she was unable to stop it. She knew she had just scolded Dimitri, but she was unable to help it. "I… Sorry," She called out, moving from whoever she had just run into. Following the sound of his voice. Or you know, violent hacking. Pulling her shirt over her face once more, she came to Dimitri, bending down. "I need you… you to sit up." Ally begged him, holding a hand out.
"We aren't getting saved by the heroes," Taking a firm grasp of his hand, she pulled him up to her. "We have to make our own way out. We need to find a window, and escape from there." 'Even if we're on the middle-most floor there is.' She remembered, hoping someone could see them from the windows.

@Moriarty

((Okay, so I had a random suggestion/idea, and we do NOT have to do this at all if you don't want to– it just occurred to me– but what if, like, after Ally becomes a hero, Dimitri becomes maybe her computer-geek dude who runs the technology for her? Liiikkkeee, he's obviously too wimpy to do field work or actually accompany her on missions, but like, staying back somewhere and talking to her via communicator, doing all of the boring work that she doesn't necessarily have time for because she's a hero? Idk it just occurred to me but he's just a side-boi so I honestly don't mind trashing him after this either. Whatever works. ^-^))

Dimitri swatted at the air until his hand met hers, and that's when she tugged him up. "Okay–" He had no choice but to assume her plan would work. His survival rested in her ability to get them both out of here. "How far down is it?" His eyes burned, as did his lungs, and he was thoroughly convinced that he was going to keel over soon if they didn't escape.

group

(Ooooh… I like that! maybe he could find out on his own she is a hero, so it wasn't like a choice thing on her part. It would probably take him a lot of convincing to get where he is with her, but she would finally agree.)

Ally ignored his question, only yanking him along to her best extent. "Try not to scream, but if you-"A coughing fit paused her thought, but when she was finished hacking, continued- "You see something I can't, tell me." She spat the last bit, just trying to get the words to pass her throat. "Now don't drag your feet." Ally demanded him, avoiding the scorching flames best she could.

@Moriarty

((Yay!! Yes, I agree.))

Dimitri nodded in response– until he realized she couldn't see him well through the smoke. "Okay–" he coughed weakly, clinging to her hand for dear life. He followed as close as he could and tried to peer through the fog at– something. Anything. But the smoke blinded him. He felt useless.

group

Ally pulled him along, trying to watch her feet best she could. She couldn't even see Dimitri, so how she expected to see a window was beyond her. At least until she bumped into a wall. "This way," She coughed hard, not touching the wall but following along it. There had to be a second wall, with some form of opening to the outside on it.

@Moriarty

"We have to be getting close to a door," Dimitri commented through the haze of smoke, keeping a tight grip on her hand. He couldn't believe what was happening. The heroes had left them. One of the heroes had died by the hands of that criminal. And now– now he and Ally were stranded in the smoke-filled inferno that would likely become their tomb. Unless they could just find a way out…

group

Eyes stinging and heart pounding, she hit the corner of the wall. "Let's hope this… is a wall with windows." Her voice hoarse from the smoke, it came out in rough crackles she couldn't control. It hurt like crazy when she spoke, but there were some things she wanted to relive them both of, so they wouldn't worry as much while they were stuck in burning building.
"Try not… to touch any glass." She sputtered out once more, coughing heavily. "If we find any… it should be hot." Though she assumed she was stating the obvious, she didn't know if he knew. So she was just putting it out there.
Another crash was heard, causing the building to shake. The ground was unsteady now, seeming to dip in. But not fully. It only caused unsteadiness in Ally, causing her to grip onto Dimitri more. "You OK?"

@Moriarty

Dimitri almost screamed at the sound of the crash, but he bit it back. He felt like his insides were on fire, and breathing had become a chore. He was quite certain death was at his door although he may have been a little bit overdramatic in his fears. "I– I think so," he replied through the haze. The only good news was that he hadn't lost Ally. Without her, he likely would've laid down on the floor and cried until the flames either engulfed him or the smoke suffocated him. Or he would've panicked and ran around like a maniac. Either were likely because he was a spaz case at times. "Any windows yet?" He coughed and choked, involuntary tears streaming his face from the smoke irritation– and he was probably crying because he was scared, too, if we're being honest here.

group

"No not-" She paused when she felt a crunch under her feet. That didn't sound good, not at all. Looking down to the floor, she was scared to see what was underneath her. The floor seemed to be… glittering? The flames were reflecting off something. "Glass!" Ally sputtered, carefully turning her head and coming face to face with an open hole in the wall.
"It's from…. from the window!" She coughed heavily, careful when she leaned forward. A steady breeze was in the air outside, and though there was smoke she could breath in half-fresh air.

@Moriarty

"Eureka! We're saved!" Dimitri exclaimed, though due to the general rawness of his throat, it wasn't as enthusiastic as it could've been. He scurried forward to the open window, careful of the jagged pieces of glass that still remained, and desperately tried his best to suck down some of that much-needed air. "How high up are we?" he asked, unable to see much of anything due to the watery tears in his eyes from the smoke irritation. It didn't help that black ash had accumulated on the lens of his glasses, either, clouding his vision further.

group

Once estimating about how far up they really were, she pulled back with a slight gulp. "I… don't think you… you want to know." She sputtered, leaning back out the window, in hopes of catching sight of someone. Though all she could see was specks from down below. She didn't expect them to see all the way up here. "This was dumb… we aren't getting out…" She muttered, pulling back from the window.
"I don't know what I was thinking, there's no way down." She sighed, pressing her hands to her face.

@Moriarty

"So… we're not saved, then." Dimitri coughed, swiping at his eyes– though the ash-dust on his hands just irritated them more. "Well– what are we going to do?" he asked frantically. "We have to find a way out! Or– or we'll die!"

group

"What's the point?" She asked, pulling back from the window. Holding a hand to her throat, she looked to him with a tight frown. "You've been so sure we were going to die this whole time. Why care now?" Ally asked him, giving him a pained expression when she said that.
It hurt her pride not to try, but when there was nothing to do anymore, was she suppose to keep trying? She had done everything she knew how to, there was nothing left. "They can't see us from up here, we're trapped."

@Moriarty

Dimitri scrubbed at his burning, tear-filled eyes. "Just because I'm sure we're gonna die doesn't mean I want to!" he blurted out defensively. "But– we can't die. We have to escape. Or else that's it! It's over! And I'm too young to die!" Tears were streaming down his face at this point, and it was likely that they had nothing to do with the smoke anymore. "I didn't even get to tell my mother goodbye–"

group

"You think I want to die either?" She asked, tone colder than she meant it to be. No, Ally didn't want to die. But what was she suppose to do? She had already established she couldn't do a thing about their current situation. "I have a family too. I have friends. I didn't get to say goodbye. We're trapped Dimitri, and as dead as the hero we saw get murdered."
She had said it. Feelings tossed down on the table, with everything on her mind. Ally was feeling absolutely crushed, and hopeless. If anyone asked her, the tears forming in her eyes was from the fire and smoke of the building. But anyone that could see her now knew that those were real tears of fear. "Do you have any good ideas? Cause if not, then we're done."

@Moriarty

Dimitri choked and sputtered for several moments before forming any sort of reply– and even then, it was simply a pitiful, "No." This was followed by a bout of uncontrollable tears and coughing. "But I'm going to look for some stairs," he blubbered somewhere in between spurts of crying. He was horrible in crises, but he had to try something. He wasn't willing to die yet. He was terrified, a coward, but nothing scared him more than dying, and he was going to do whatever to keep from letting it happen. He knew the chances of him getting to the bottom of the stairs before the building came down were close to none– because they were up high– but it beat standing here and letting the smoke smother him. Assuming that he could even find any stairs. He couldn't really see, so looking was going to be difficult– but whatever.
Everything burned. His eyes. His throat. His lungs. Dying would've been better, easier, but he was too afraid of it. He wanted to live too much. He sniffed, coughed, and swiped at his eyes, sucking another fresh breath from the window before he turned back to the still smoky room.

group

Ally gave him a look, one that asked him 'Are you dumb?' because clearly he wasn't thinking straight. "That's a suicide mission Dimitri. Wouldn't it be-" Another crack, meant something else falling. Looking up in a panic, she shoved herself off the ground, and pushed both herself and Dimitri out of the way. "Go! Go!" She yelled at him, tearing her throat when she did. It hurt in ridiculous amounts of pain to yell, but if he didn't want to die he needed to get the sense of urgency.
As the two were running as far as they could, one of the large support beams came from the ceiling crashing through the floor. Right where they had been, not even sixty seconds before. "If you really don't care… why'd you move?" Ally asked herself, glancing up to Dimitri.
"O-okay…. so maybe I really do care." She whispered, chewing on her bottom lip. "But the stairs will get us killed faster than we're already getting killed. Won't it be smoke clogged? And the possibility that they could cave in on us is strong…" Pausing, she sighed there was nothing logical about escaping the building right now.
"We'll have to run. There's no other option here."

@Moriarty

Dimitri looked like he was either on the verge of screaming, passing out, or crying– maybe all three. "Okay. Run. I agree," he managed quickly, offering a quick nod. "Who leads?" He clearly didn't want to be the one to do it, but he wasn't about to sign her up for something if she wasn't willing to…

group

"I don't want to leave you behind." No, she wasn't incredibly fast, but in this situation she wasn't going to look back to see if he was still there. Letting out a soft huff, Ally looked up to him. "But I'll lead if you don't want to. Let's go." Ally mumbled, beginning to run down the steps at a swift pace. Only once she glanced back to see if he was following, unable to really see if he was.
"Let me know if you want to lead instead." She whispered, her voice rather hoarse from all the smoke. It killed to talk above a whisper, especially after screaming just a moment ago.

@Moriarty

Dimitri gasped and choked in the smoky air as he tried to keep up, unable to really respond. He almost stumbled a few times since he couldn't even see the steps below him, but he managed to catch himself against the railing to keep from tumbling onto his friend. "Give me– your hand–" he wheezed. "So that you don't lose me." He waved his hand into the thick haze, hoping to find hers somewhere close by so that they could keep from getting separated.

group

Coming to a halt, she reached out for his hand, gripping to his forearm instead. "Hold… hold on tight." Ally sputtered, yanking her shirt back up over her nose. Her grip was deathly tight, as if it meant the world to hang on to him. She didn't want to be responsible for someone's death. She had already seen and heard enough for the day.
The foundation was cracking, beginning to break down and cave in on it's self. Thus causing Allya Richards to pick up her pace. She was yanking him along, but at this point she didn't care. They had to at least try to get out alive. It would be terrible if they died giving up. That's what she had tried, and totally regretted it as they ran down the stairs.

@Moriarty

Dimitri was pretty sure he was going to die. Tears stung at his eyes as she tugged him down the stairs, and beads of sweat soaked his forehead. His lungs ached and he was convinced that this would be the end of him. He didn't know how far they had to go, just that his throat burned and he was crying and that Ally was yanking him down the stairs and that they both were trying to live.
Down and down and down they went. It felt like an eternity to Dimitri, who clung to Ally for tear life and tried to keep his own shirt over his mouth. He wasn't sure how much farther they had to go– or how much farther they could go– but there was less smoke the farther they made it down, as smoke always rises. Maybe there was yet hope. Maybe they were close…

group

Having the smoke beginning to clear, she glances back at her fellow employee with a slight smile. Who ever thought she’d be happy to be able to see his face? It wasn’t clear, but she could still see him. Though her legs were aching from running so much. Her heart pounded in her chest, and breathing was incredibly difficult. Only now she was beginning to realize how hard it was to keep going. ’Come on, we’ve gotta make it… we’ve gotta-‘ Her thoughts were interrupted at the change in her running. Having been so use to running down stairs, it was a miracle to feel flat ground below her. Though Ally tripped slightly, hoping she hadn’t pulled Dimitri with her. “I-I think we made it.”

@Moriarty

"We did?!" he cried excitedly, his voice raspy and he found out that she was right as his own feet met the flat ground. "We didn't die!" His throat was raw, his eyes watering, his lungs aching, but it didn't matter. They were gonna make it.
As if on cue, another crash came from upstairs, and Dimitri nearly leapt out of his skin. "Hurry! Hurry! We gotta find the door." They were this close. He wasn't willing to let the ceiling cave in on him now.

group

Ally smiled softly to the other, amused by his thrill of being safe on the bottom floor. Though that dropped into a slight horrified look as she heard crashing above them. Then Dimitri's panic right afterwards, not exactly helping their situation.
One good thing came out of this, she was feeling more pressured. So she was hoping that would lead her to try and not take her time. As she so often did. "I'm looking, I'm looking." She whispered frantically, pulling him over to the wall. Carefully she ran her hands over it, trying to find the door.

@Moriarty

((I have been MAJORLY distracted and on a half-hiatus, so I might have to take up your offer of putting this on a temporary hold if that's okay. I'm SO sorry, but in order to keep from forgetting about it, I'm going to leave it marked as unread after you respond to me so that it'll constantly be on my notifications and I can get around to it soon. ^-^ <3 ))

group

(That's alright! As of the moment one less RP would be awesome. Things have gotten ten times busier, and I have half the time I use to for a pleather of reasons. So respond whenever and I'll try and get something up too! <33)
