Devon gave him a quick nod before gesturing that he follow her. “Come on, the stuff is in the back,” she said softly.

He took a sip of the mocha, smiling a little as the pleasant taste bloomed on his tongue. But, following her into the back, he felt a sudden nervousness, an instinctual distrust of… well, everything. Sebastian made sure each of his steps was laced with confidence, as if nothing was wrong, not wanting to alarm Devon.
Devon led Sebastian down a short hallway and into a smallish room. A wood table sat in the middle of the room, cupboards and cabinets lined the walls, and a mini fridge sat in one corner. Walking over to a cabinet by a sink, Devon opened it and pulled out a first aid kit.
“Do you want to sit down? Or would you prefer to stand?” she asked, glancing up at him.
It's just a tiny cut, Sebastian wanted to protest, but he bit his tongue before the words could come out and offend Devon. "I can stand, if it's easier for you," he replied, eyes darting around the room, "Or I could sit."
Devon looked up at him for a moment as she thought about how she’d have to hold her arm up for a while if he stood.
“Why don’t you sit? That way I don’t have to reach up so high,” she suggested, nodding toward a tan, leather couch against one wall.
Sebastian nodded, following her instructions and sitting down carefully on the couch.
"You know, you don't have to do this," he told her, suddenly grateful for the jacket that hid the cuts on the rest of his body.
Devon shook her head and wordlessly pulled supplies out of the kit. She hated seeing people hurting, so she tried to help them whenever she could. It was just he way she was, even before…
She sighed and shook her head, looking back up at Sebastian. “This might sting a little,” she said, reaching over with a disinfectant wipe to clean the cut.
Sebastian flinched, but not because of the sting that settled into his sting. More because of the fact that someone was touching him, coming into contact with his face, and an almost-stranger at that. He stayed silent, keeping his body perfectly still.
“Sorry,” Devon murmured when she saw him flinch.
She gently wiped the cut clean, chewing on her lip in concentration as she did so. When she was finished, she grabbed Neosporin and a q-tip from the kit and dabbed a little onto the wound before covering it with a bandage.
“Okay. You should be good, now,” she said quietly, moving to put the first aid kit away.
Sebastian gingerly raised his fingers to his cheek, prodding the bandage gently. He wasn't used to having one on, he usually left cuts be, even deep ones, There was just something about patching himself up that didn't quite sit with him well. "Thanks."
Devon turned back to him after she put the plastic box away and offered him a small smile. “It was no problem. Thank you for the coffee.”
Sebastian gave her an eloquent, one-shouldered shrug, his discomfort of being in an unfamiliar place setting in. "You're welcome, it wasn't a problem," he replied, fidgeting with the edge of his jacket sleeve.
“Oh. You can, uh, head out if you want… I’m just going to, um, be cleaning things up a bit in here… Sorry…” Devon said, stumbling over her words again as she noticed his discomfort.
"Don't be sorry," he told her, grateful for her invitation. "Thank you for the bandage." Sebastian stood, offering her a smile. "See you around, then?"
“Yeah. Yeah, see you,” Devon said, giving him that small smile once more.
Sebastian slipped out, still smiling. He decided to take his mocha and leave the café, opting instead to take a walk by the park. The drink was warm, coating his mouth in a pleasant taste, and he found his thoughts looping back to Devon. She had offered to bandage him up.. that was definitely a first. And she'd meant it genuinely.
Devon shook her head after Sebastian left. She really needed to get back to work… Thinking about him wouldn’t help her any.
He was confusing to her. His smile was certainly nice, but he didn’t seem to show it often. And he had seemed pretty hesitant to accept her offer of cleaning his cut, which wasn’t all that strange, seeing as how they barely even knew each other. Why should he have let her help him? Why did he?
(skip or stay?)
(A skip sounds fine. Maybe to a few weeks later? They could have seen each other a few more times?)
(yeah sure, how should they interact now? Bump into each other again, or a planned friendly outing?)
(Maybe they bump into each other and then plan something then?)
(yeah, sure)
Sebastian scratched at an itchy spot on the side of his neck as he made his way down the street, once again drifting anywhere his feet took him. It was on days like these, where he could barely stand being alone in his small apartment, that the need to wander settled and he was left unmoored, floating without an anchor. An anchor which he desperately needed.
Devon has worked a pretty early shift that day, so now she was just ready to go home and be with Layla. She missed her bright, giggly daughter and couldn’t wait to pick her up.
With thoughts of the toddler clouding her mind and her eyes trained on the ground as they always were, Devon didn’t see Sebastian in front of her until it was too late. Just like the first time they’d met, she bumped into him and stepped back, apologizing profusely until she realized who she’d run into.
“Oh. Sebastian. Hey. Sorry I ran into you. Again…” she trailed off, chewing on her lip in embarrassment.
Sebastian’s look of mild surprise quickly relaxed into a smile when he realized who had bumped into him, steadying himself, “Hey, Devon. It’s fine, don’t worry about it. How are you?”
(Sorry. It’s family night, so I was watching a movie with my family. We watched Home Alone, and it was hilarious. Lol.)
“I’m doing all right,” Devon said, returning the smile with her own. The smiles she gave him had slowly grown into a pretty good sized one each time she saw him as she grew more and more comfortable around him.
“I’m trying to go pick someone up, and I’m a little anxious to see her.” She chuckled lightly as she spoke about her daughter. She hadn’t actually told Sebastian about Layla yet, mostly because she’d never really come up. And because Devon was worried about what he would think about her if she mentioned she had a daughter but wasn’t married. “How are you?”
(It’s no problem, I’m inconsistent with time anyways. Lol)
“I’m pretty good,” Sebastian replied, stance relaxing as his smile grew. It was getting easier and easier to stay calm around her, his comments growing less forced, his demeanour slowly softening until his comfortability around her increased. Running a hand through his hair, he indicated to the road ahead. “I could walk you, if you’d like.”
(Lol. I can be, too.)
"O-oh. Um, sure, yeah. I'm actually just on my way to my car, but I wouldn't mind the company," Devon agreed. At least she wasn't walking to the daycare…
(it's np, everyone has a personal life outside of notebook)
Sebastian nodded, noticing her slight discomfort and hesitating. "I don't have to if you don't want me to, I didn't want to make you uncomfortable."
Devon shook her head and gave him a small smile. “No, no. It’s fine. Really, I’d enjoy the company.”
The comment brought the smile back to Sebastian's face. "Sure, then." They commenced walking in the direction of Devon's car, the chilly air nipping at their noses. "Anything to look forward to this weekend?" he asked politely, trying to initiate conversation.
