Devon shook her head and pulled her face away from her knees, only to bring her hands up to it and rub her eyes.
“Just… a bad dream… Nightmare-ish memory,” she whispered.
Devon shook her head and pulled her face away from her knees, only to bring her hands up to it and rub her eyes.
“Just… a bad dream… Nightmare-ish memory,” she whispered.
“I’m sorry..” he murmured, movie forgotten. “Is there anything I can do right now?”
“I just… Water. Will you get me a glass of water, please?” Devon asked quietly, peaking her hands away from her face to stare at the wall.
Sebastian got up, almost stumbling over himself in his haste to get to the kitchen. He returned quickly, offering her the glass.
Devon nodded and took the glass with a mumbled, “Thank you.” After a few sips, she had calmed down enough that she was no longer shaking, and she could actually look at Sebastian now.
“Are you okay?” he asked gently, treating her with the utmost care.
“I’m… better,” Devon sighed, glancing down into her cup. “It’s just hard to shake…”
“I’m sorry…” he whispered, wanting to take her hand but restraining himself.
Devon shook her head slowly and brought her eyes up to meet his. "It's not your fault. Please, don't apologize."
He bit his lip, nodding slowly. “Anything else I can do for you?”
"I don't know… Maybe just… hold my hand?" Devon asked, her voice softening to a whisper as she held her hand out to him.
Sebastian gladly did so, holding her quivering hand in both of his.
Devon let out a small breath and closed her eyes. Had anyone else touched her at that moment, she would have flinched and pulled away. There was something about him, though, that was comforting… She didn’t know what it was, but she was extremely grateful for it.
“Thank you,” she breathed, opening her eyes and looking up into his glittering caramel ones.
Sebastian squeezed her hand lightly, his features having softened into an expression of comfort and sympathy. “Anytime.”
(I feel like my description of his eyes is so… blah…)
Devon gave him a small, wavering smile and squeezed his hand back. "You've been such a good friend," she said softly, her gaze flickering over his face.
(No it’s fine!!)
Sebastian smothered a tiny twinge of disappointment at her word chose, making room for the warmth that was spreading through his chest. “At least I’m doing that much right…”
Devon blinked a few times, then shook her head as she chewed on her lip. Friend wasn’t a good enough word for how he treated her, with so much respect and gentleness and almost lovingness… It felt like they were more than just friends, but… could she take that extra step and finally put a label on their relationship?
“More than a friend,” she finally whispered, looking up at him shyly as her cheeks reddened slightly.
(YAAAAS GIRL)
(ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh)
An impossibly large grin formed on his lips. "I was really, really hoping you'd say that," he whispered, biting the inside of his cheek to keep his smile from growing even more.
Devon smiled at his reaction. She hadn’t thought he’d be so happy about it, but she was glad that he was. And that smile was really cute on him, too, so that was a nice bonus.
“Well, I’m glad you’re happy about it,” she said, squeezing his hand.
"I'm glad you said it," he answered, a faint blush rushing to his cheeks. "Are you feeling any better?"
Devon sighed at the mention of what had happened moments ago. She had nearly forgotten about it, but now… Well, hopefully she could again soon.
“A little bit, I guess. I had nearly forgotten about it, honestly,” she said with a small shrug.
"Oh… sorry." Sebastian's smile fell from his face. "What—What do you want to do now? Finish the movie? Or just…. talk?"
"Um… Maybe we could finish the movie? It might help me get my mind off of…" Devon trailed off, closing her eyes for a moment and taking a deep breath before she reopened them. "And then… We could talk after?"
"That sounds great," Sebastian replied, adjusting the blanket over his legs. "Do you want me to give you space?"
Devin shook her head with a sigh. "No… No, I think— No. Just… Hug me?" she whispered softly, failing to meet his eyes.
“Of course.” Sebastian wasted no time enveloping her in a warm hug, tucking her snugly into his embrace.
Devon closed her eyes and let out a slow breath. Why was his touch so comforting when everyone else’s made her want to curl up and cry? It was so strange, but she certainly wasn’t complaining…
He slipped a hand up into her hair, bracing the back of her head and holding her against him as if she was the most precious thing in the world. Careful not to let his arm slip any lower than the middle of her back, he tightened his hold on her, just a bit, in a manner that was almost… protective.
A breath caught in her throat as his hand slipped into her hair, but she relaxed again not long after. This was… nice. Yeah. It was nice. It felt so good to actually be held again. She hadn’t been held like this since… Well, since ever, really…
