“It’s not quite stargazing. Something similar, though,” Lucifer responded with a smirk. The minutes ticked by before the car pulled up to a view overlooking the city. Lucifer paid the mortal a few silver coins before he got out of the car, his eyes connecting to the small trail hidden in the bushes not too far away. As far as he knew, Lucifer was the only one who knew about it. “We’re almost there,” He told Gabe as he waited for the mortal to get out of the car.

@bubblegum

"Okay," Gabe said with a nod, stepping out of the car and slamming the door behind him, although it wasn't a violent motion.

Lucifer led Gabe close to the trail, waiting for the cab to drive away before pulling away the brush and revealing the dirt path surrounded by trees. He walked down it, and it curved downwards and towards the edge of the cliff. As they kept walking, the trail came out of the trees to go against the side of the cliff.

“Be careful, it hurts, if you die in hell -it’s not permanent, but- it definitely hurts.” Lucifer warned, his eyes darkening slightly as he shuffled careful on the path. “It’s only a little ways.”

@bubblegum

"Oh. Good to know." Gabe blinked, following Lucifer in the same manner. The narrow path soon ended, leading to a wider trail surrounded by more trees.

Lucifer guided Gabe a little bit farther until they came to a small cave opening, barely large enough to squeeze into. It looked pitch black from the outside. “Here we are,” Lucifer didn’t realize he was smiling as he spoke, “You want me to go in first?”

@bubblegum

Gabe pursed his lips as he looked into the cave. "Yeah," He said with a nod, turning to Lucifer and blushing a little. Even he didn't know why…maybe it was his smile?

Lucifer smirked a little, staring at how handsome Gabe was just for a second before crawling in the crack in the earth. It took a moment for his eyes to adjust, but as Lucifer crawled in the cave opened up into a wide cavern. It had a sandy bottom, and not a few more feet away was a natural pool. There was only one thing odd about this hidden gem—it was the glowing stars in the pool. At least they looked like stars, but upon further examination one would see the thousands of glowwyrms covering the top of the cavern.

@bubblegum

Gabe followed him in, stumbling a little and bumping against Lucifer, his eyes taking much longer to adjust. They did eventually, and he blinked a little, taking in the entire scene with wonder.

Lucifer was surprised when Gabe bumped into him at first. It was almost of realization of how long it had been since he’d last been touched in a way that he didn’t hate. He didn’t even realize how his face heated up.
Lucifer shook his head to snap himself back to reality. He smiled, “Welcome to my little hideaway. I know it’s not exactly stargazing, but it’s the one of the closest things to it in hell. Most of the time the sky is cloudy at night.” He walked closer to the pool, then shed his shirt and pants off, leaving him in his black boxers. His exposed, muscled back revealed some scars, one that looked as if someone had shred their hand down Lucifer’s back. “Want to go swimming?” He asked, turning his head to look at Gabe.

@bubblegum

Gabe nodded, blinking for a moment before doing the same and walking towards the pool, blushing a little bit. He was pretty sure he knew the reason, but not entirely sure.

Lucifer waded into the water slowly. The water was comfortable temperature, and the sand slopes down fairly quickly so it only took a few steps and the water covered his chest. It was so refreshing, to be down here. Lucifer always came here to clear his head. “You’re the first person I brought down here,” Lucifer told Gabe with a soft smile. Gabe was different. He didn’t really know the extent of Lucifer’s bad reputation, and he could feel comfortable around someone for once in a long while.

@bubblegum

"Really?" Gabe asked, following him and returning the smile. He started treading water, his attention more on Lucifer than the cave itself.

“Yeah,” Lucifer sighed, then moved to float on his back. Maybe it was because he was in his favorite place to be, maybe it was because he was talking to Gabe, or maybe it was both, but Lucifer was comfortable enough to tell Gabe a secret he’d kept a long time. “You know how people on earth say the devil hates everyone?”

@bubblegum

"Yeah." Gabe tilted his head. "And god is the savior, or whatever. Why?"

“I must admit, your Creator isn’t to be trifled with, but…” Lucifer trailed off, “The devil doesn’t hate everyone. He only hates one person.” Lucifer swiped at his eye as he stared up at the ceiling of ‘stars’ when he let out the final sentence, “He hates himself.”

@bubblegum

"Oh." Gabe paused for a moment, pushing some of his curls out of his face. When he was alive, he believed that the devil hated everyone. His first few weeks in hell, he had changed that opinion: he had thought that Lucifer only liked a couple of people. But now…well, he trusted what Lucifer said. "Why?"

Lucifer’s eyes drooped to a close, and for a few seconds it looked like he wouldn’t say anything but then he finally responded, “Maybe the devil made mistakes.” He sighed, pain flashing in his eyes for a second as he opened them again, “I have a horrible reputation. I regret a lot of things. I let people down. A lot of people. And I have no one to blame but myself.”

@bubblegum

Gabe pursed his lips in thought for a couple of seconds, before speaking again. Normally he wouldn't say anything, but Abby had always demanded he comfort her whenever she was in a bad mood, so it was habit. "It could be more of the people's fault. Spreading fear and lies all the time."

Lucifer let out a breathy laugh, “No, it was definitely my fault. But now’s not the time to dwell on the sad things. How are you liking hell so far?”

@bubblegum

Gabe shrugged, a small smile crossing his face. "It's been alright. Abby's…Abby's not here, so that's an upgrade."

“You disliked her more than hell?” Lucifer moved to a standing position in the water to see Gabe better. “I’m sorry you had to deal with her.”

@bubblegum

"It's alright," Gabe said, pushing a dark curl out of his face. "She'll probably be coming down here soon enough anyway."

Lucifer frowned. He certainly would be making sure that when she came down to hell, she would not be happy. “I’ve talked a lot. If you ever need someone to listen, I’m all ears,” Lucifer promised seriously.

@bubblegum

Gabe looked up, smiling a little more. "Seriously?"

“Of course,” Lucifer said, his words as true as the air they breathed. He took a step closer to Gabe, part of his wanting to reach up and brush away a stray strand of Gabe’s adorable curly hair that hung on his face.

@bubblegum

Gabe blushed the tiniest bit, although it was hardly noticeable what with the lighting. "Thank you," He said quietly, wondering what Lucifer would do next - a part of him was a little nervous.

“Any time…” Lucifer trailed off, his legs moving on their own so he was right up next to Gabe. If he got any closer, their noses might touch. A faint little voice of reason was screaming at him from the back of his mind, what the heck are you doing?!? But Lucifer couldn’t resist as he reached up to brush a strand of Gabe’s hair away.

@bubblegum

Gabe blushed a little deeper, smiling the smallest bit in reassurance, even if he was a little nervous. It didn't seem like Lucifer was going to use him at all.

Gabe was so kind and sweet…. he was different from the rest. Lucifer trusted him, and he hadn’t trusted anyone in a long time. So Lucifer was about to lean in. He was so close. But then he pulled away, awkwardly staring at the pool of water as his face grew to a red so bright that he was sure Gabe could see. “I-I- I’m sorry, I- I didn’t mean- I- I’m sorry.” What had he been thinking? He probably just wrecked his any chance of trust from Gabe.

@bubblegum

Gabe smiled a little bit, a strange wave of relief washing off of him. He didn't think Lucifer had been trying to use him - he thought Lucifer had just tried to kiss him. Impulse got the best of him. "It's okay," Gabe reassured, pausing for a couple moments before leaning to quickly kiss Lucifer.
