"Tell me about yourself," August invited.

"Well… I come from a poorer family, so we don't have much. Still, we are very active in the community. I… tend to blurt things out that are less than acceptable. I just don't think things through."
Again, he laughed, looking at the fire. "You sound like my brother,"
group
"I see. Perhaps being strong-willed isn't so rare after all."
"Mm, well," August began, "He relates more to the running-your-mouth part,"
group
"I see. Well, God has a plan, and I am sure He has a purpose for all of this."
August leaned back, rubbing his hands together. "I've never been very religious."
group
"I see. Well, it is hard to be when your job breaks the Commandments. It is alright, I don't hold it against you." Coraline smiled.
Augustus's smile felt faked now, he decided to opt for silence.
group
Coraline realized what you said.
"I am sorry, my good sir. I can't believe I said that out loud." She mumbled the last part.
"I didn't have a choice," August explained. "See, my father, he's got military prowess. It would be blasphemous for me to be the end of a prestigious lineage, I guess," he rubbed his forehead.
group
"I see. Lineage can be very stressful."
"My father is something else." He laughed morbidly. "Not abusive, just… Different."
group
Coraline nodded.
"My father is gone most of the day, and we don't really mind it." She internally smacked herself. How dare she speak of her father this way.
"Yeah…" August murmured. "My brother Marion was more of a dad to me."
group
Coraline smiled knowingly.
He gave a concerned look towards the window, when a crack of thunder broke the quiet.
group
Coraline jumped so high, she nearly hit the ceiling.
"Oh! Are you okay?!" August gasped.
group
"I-I'm n-not the b-bigest fa-an of th-under."
"Huh…" Was all he said.
group
"I don't like loud noises in general." She had calmed down.
"Well, better than being outside, yeah..?" He tried to comfort her.
