“So you are dreaming about me. A step in the right direction.” I hummed, slowly running my hand through my hair.

“You’re worse than Romeo,” I told him harshly, gut twisting.

“Romeo’s just a big sap right now. You aren’t going to get very far talking to him.” I snorted, rolling my eyes. “Unlike me, the emotionless stud, an honorary Montague for my good looks.”

“Hilarious,” I said dryly, tossing my empty bag into the garbage.

“Aren’t I? Just another one of my good qualities.” I chewed my lower lip, looking out the window.

Again, I elected not to answer, eyeing the nearest window. How easy would it be to climb out?

I pride open the window and closed my eyes, kicking my feet back up again and stretching out. “You don’t have much to say, do you?”

“Not to the guy who almost dragged my best friend to her death,” I said simply, venom seeping into my voice.

“Business is business.” I sighed, clicking my tongue. “Your fault for getting to attached to things that can be ripped away.”

I completely lost it. “What. The. Fuck,” I spat, pushing myself off the desk. “She’s my best friend, and you’re saying I shouldn’t want to keep her alive?! That I shouldn’t are about her?! I knew Capulet were heartless, they started this whole war because of that, but even this is too far.”

I lazily opened one eye in response to her outburst. “We’re in a war. All is fair.” I snarked.

“And what if I held a gun to Romeo’s head?” I growled, “Would you even care?”

“Of course. He’s my best friend, but he can handle himself. And if he can’t? Then… well.” I shrugged, feigning coldness. “That’s his problem.” She didn’t need to know how much I cared for my best friend.

“You’re disgusting,” I hissed, eyes smouldering.

“I’m realistic.” I replied flatly. “We’ve sacrificed everything for this war. What’re we gonna do? Have families? Get jobs? This is for life. Suck it up.”

“Don’t tell me to suck it up.” I was ready to punch this guy, to murder him alive. “And no, you’re not realistic, you’re heartless.”

“Having something you Capulets could lord over my head would put me on the fast track to getting hurt, getting killed, betraying my family or, mostly likely, all three.” I huffed, rolling my eyes.

“That’s funny,” I answered sarcastically, “Because I don’t actually see anything wrong with any of those options.”

“I bet you wouldn’t.” I sneered, closing my eyes and turning away. “Why would a Capulet care about an emotion they can’t feel. Bet you’ve never loved anyone before.”

“Pretty fucking bold of you to assume,” I snapped bitterly. “I love it when random people assume things about me.”

“I’d hardly call myself random. Youre a grade A hypocrite, by the way.” I turned away, shunning her.

“Except I’m not assuming, you admitted to not caring,” I fired back, “And I would definitely call you random.”

“Yeah, call me random. Will that make you feel better when Angelo slides over a file with my name on it?” I snapped in reply, narrowing my eyes and glaring at the window pane. “You’re just a pawn. Don’t act self righteous.”

“When my boss hands me a job,” I said slowly, articulating each word, “I will be happy to carry it out.”

I broke into a fit of laughter. “Sure. Keep telling yourself that.”

I was lying straight through my teeth, of course I was, but I kept the act up nonetheless. “You won’t be laughing when you’re bleeding out on the ground, but sure.”

I laughed louder, making a show of calming myself down and wiping away tears that didn’t exist. “I’ll go out laughing, Capulet.” I turned my head to look at her, my muddy brown eyes filled with as much intensity as I could muster. “God knows we won’t be on this earth for long. But whoever rips my life away is going to remember it. Every last fucking second of it. I want the moment the life leaves me eyes to haunt them. And maybe, with any luck, I’ll get my story written down for some crusty ass historian to find someday.”
