MARINA: ouch. I can relate. Unfortunately. but, uh… if you don’t like people dating you for sex… don’t date them for the same thing?

MERCUTIO: Date them for what? High school relationships don’t go anywhere. It’s not worth it to get chained down just to have it end in flames.

MARINA: its not worth it to be in a relationship with someone who only wants to use you, either. trust me on that one.

I turned off my phone and pressed it against my chest, my eyes screwed shut. This was a bad idea. What was I thinking?

Exposing myself like that. To him. To a Montague. After everything that had happened. After everything that they’d done to Juliet. To me.

MERCUTIO: Try getting some actual sleep, Pazza.

I placed my phone down next to my head, staring blankly at the ceiling. Did it hurt? Being used all the time? I sort of felt numb to it now. But somehow that made me feel worse…

Why had I even texted him? Started a conversation? I should have just put my phone away. He shouldn’t even have his phone. I lay there, staring at the ceiling, trying not to succumb to the odd urge to hear him text me back.

I exhaled quietly, biting my lip to prevent myself from double texting her. You just got out of debt with her. She doesn’t have any control left. Snap out of it.

My hands shook as a memory overtook me—hands, cold and clammy, slipping beneath my shirt. A mouth, pressed to my ear. Whispering, drawing me closer. “Good girl.”

I curled up into a tiny ball, willing anybody, even Mercutio, to text me. I couldn’t be alone. Not now.
