“Do you know that girl?” Ana asked, blowing air out with a light huff. “Doesn’t matter, she’s cute. I’m going to talk to her. I’ll see you in English.” She added bluntly, shoving her hands in her pockets and beginning to walk away towards the girl.

Olive nodded and sighed as Ana left to talk to the girl. She didn't want to be in either of their ways so she just left o class, way before everyone else got there. She lied her head down in her arms on her desk.

@basil_

Ana found the girl and talked with her until the first bell rang, acquiring her name and number. She grabbed her things for English and walked smugly into the room, taking her usual seat behind Olive, smirking silently at her phone as the other kids milled around talking.

Olive saw Ana come in the classroom with a smug look on her face. She turned around to see Ana on her phone. "So did you talk to her?" She asked, with a trace of sadness in her voice.

@basil_

“Yup.” She popped the ‘p’, glancing up from her phone for a second to answer Olive. “I don’t know why I’ve never noticed her before. She’s my type too.”

"Um, what's her name? I haven't noticed her before either…" Olive glanced to the front of the room to see if the teacher was there. She was but she hadn't started class yet.

@basil_

“Madeline. She’s a year below us so we don’t have a lot of classes with her.” Ana said, slipping her phone into her pocket and finally looking up at Olive. “Any secret crushes you want to tell me about?”

"Nah, I would have told you about it already if I had one." Olive smiled at Ana. She was always good at hiding crushes. She could always convince people that she didn't have one even if she did. "Well, you have good taste, usually, so I bet she'll be great." She said, hiding her disappointment.

@basil_

“You never have crushes anymore.” Ana sighed. What was the fun in having a girlfriend if she couldn’t go on double dates with Olive and hers and get ready with Olive beforehand. Or get to tease Olive about how awkward she was around girls, even though it was kind of cute.

"I know… I guess no one's really caught my eye recently. And I'm physically unable to approach people like you do." She had always wanted to have a girlfriend and have Ana give her advice and help. And go on double dates. And gush to Ana about how amazing her girlfriend was. But as of more recently, the only person taking up her mind was Ana. She wanted to go on dates with her and hold her.

@basil_

“Mm..we should work on that.” Ana muttered, taking her things out as the teacher began the class.

Olive nodded and turned to the front. The teacher started the class and Olive absent-mindedly wrote 'notes' in her notebook. Ana, like always, was in her thoughts.

@basil_

Ana diligently took notes in most of her classes throughout the day. She used to not care about school but the last couple years had made her realize she actually wanted a future.
The final bell rang after hours of boring classes and Ana stood up, stretching and turning to Olive. “Do you want ice cream?” She asked, picking up her bag.

"Obviously, ice cream is a dessert of the gods." Olive stood up as well, groaning as she picked her backpack that was overly heavy. She slung it on her shoulders and turned to Ana.

@basil_

“Okay then, weirdo.” Ana snorted quietly, smiling softly, something that only happened around Olive. Why would she smile for anyone else? They didn’t deserve it.
She walked to her locker and grabbed a couple things before heading out towards the parking lot, glancing behind her to check that Olive was still behind her.

Olive giggled and followed Ana to the lockers then the parking lot. "You should totally let me drive because I definitely have my license." She said jokingly. Her parents hadn't let her get her permit until the was 16 and she was still taking driver's ed.

@basil_

“Yeah if I want to get my car totaled.” Ana laughed softly, shaking her head. “Leave the driving to me.”
She climbed into the drivers seat and handed Olive her phone. “Pick some music. Make it good though.” She said, pulling out of the parking lot.

Olive smiled. "Oh you know better than to let me pick the music. Remember the last time you let me pick the music?" She was recalling the memory. She always tried to find the strangest songs she could. Sometimes it wasn't even music.

@basil_

“I have to have some hope, don’t I? Try to be normal for once and pick some good music.” Ana always said that but she loved how strange Olive could be sometimes. It made her laugh.

"Hmmm, okay… let's see here." Olive smiled as she looked for some music. She remembered some music her sister liked and decided to play it. She chose one song. It started playing through the car. She had never heard it before herself, but her sister loved it so why not try it?

@basil_

“English, Olive!” Ana shouted over the music, laughing even so. “What the hell is this?!” She shook her head, not paying much attention to where they were going but that was okay. They had been to the same ice cream shop so many times she could get there in her sleep.

"You know what, I'm not even sure. My sister likes it and I want to know what weird stuff she likes." Olive laughed as she yelled over the music as well. She had a huge smile on her face as she looked for something else. Once the song ended she found one. "Okay… I know you said English, but just listen to this. I mean you don't have a choice but whatever." With a silly smile on her face, Olive pressed play.

@basil_

“Is this French?? Liv, how do you even find this music? You’re insane!” Ana finally pulled into the parking lot and grabbed her phone back, playing whatever song she found first that was actually in English.

"Oh, I have my sources." Olive giggled once again. She loved doing that. It always put her in a good mood and she knew Ana secretly had to have liked it. "I need to keep things interesting, so what better way than music?"

@basil_

"Are things not usually interesting?" Ana raised an eyebrow, turning the car off and getting out of the car. The temperature had got significantly warmer to her and she wondered why Olive still needed her hoodie.

"I mean yeah they are, but music makes things that much better." Olive got out of the car as well and followed Ana inside. She had just gotten used to wearing Ana's hoodie and hadn't fully realized it was hers at that moment.

@basil_

"I guess you're right." Ana shrugged, inhaling deeply as they entered the small shop. It always smelled like vanilla and sugar in here. This was one of her favorite places on Earth. It was open all year round because they also sell baked goods and coffee in the winter. She glanced over at Olive for a moment, a smile growing on her lips.

Olive took in a long, deep breath. The best place on planet earth was right there in the city she lived in. She would be down to have ice cream from there even if it was -40 degrees outside. She saw Ana look at her with a smile, she sent one back. She got in line and started looking at the flavors.

@basil_

Ana got in line behind her, scanning the board with the different flavors even though she already knew what she wanted. "I'm paying by the way." She murmured, not taking her eyes off the board.

"Oh, are you sure? Didn't you pay last time?" Olive asked. It was nice to be paid for, but she felt kind of bad. No matter how little the flavors changed, she never knew what to have. Every time way too many flavors sounded good to her.
