Okay, so the person was in pain… What was she supposed to do?

Autumn bent down and spoke gently. "I can hear that you're hurt… Please, come out, and I can help you."

There was a faint shifting as they tried to press away from her. It prompted a little outburst of tears from the pain.

Autumn chewed on her lip for a moment before daring to push the bushes away so she could see. She held back a gasp of shock and pressed a hand to her mouth.

It was a little girl… And she looked so beaten and bruised…

"Oh my gosh… Honey, let me help you, please," she practically begged the girl. "Come on…"

(How old are we saying?)

(Ten at minimum, eleven, twelve at most. Your choice.)

The little girl’s pale and slack face had streaks of blood on it that didn’t seem to be hers. Her eyes were overbright, but somehow dulled at the same time. She shifted the best she could away from Autumn, her eyes trained on Autumn’s face and away from the light. Her eyes were a pale gray and her hair was so dirty Autumn couldn’t tell a color.

(I'd do ten.)

"Come on, honey… Please, I'm not going to hurt you. Let me help… Please," Autumn whispered, chewing on her lip as she looked at the poor girl.

(I’ll do ten, then.)

The girl curled up in herself slowly, hiding her shy little face away. She started to shiver as the temperature dropped.

Autumn sighed and leaned back. Maybe she should go get Alex… She didn't seem to be having any luck, and she had no idea what to do.

The girl glanced up when Autumn leaned back and slowly uncurled again, shaking as pain pricked in her legs. She looked up at the pretty woman, begging her for help. She wanted the lady to take her pain away.

Autumn decided to try again, this time slowly reaching her hand out a bit. "Come on. Let me help you, please…"

The girl let her reach out. She couldn’t move any more without feeling dizzy. She scooted closer the best she could, wincing.

"Um… Do you mind if I pick you up? I want to carry you inside so you don't have to walk," Autumn said softly.

The girl lifted herself up the best she could, to try and tell the nice lady that it was okay, but relaxed into the ground again with a whine.

Autumn chewed on her lip and glanced over the girl. She didn't look too heavy, she'd probably be easy to lift.

"All right. So I'm just going to put this arm under your legs, and this one under your back, and I'm going to just lift you up…" Autumn explained what she was doing as she did it, hoping the girl wouldn't get scared.

The girl tensed as she felt Autumn’s arms under her, but she didn’t wiggle. Her arms were warm and soft. She leaned into her once she was lifted up.

This was good. She hadn't tried to get away from Autumn, so maybe things wouldn't go too badly.

"All right. Now we're going to head inside and then make our way to the bathroom," Autumn said as she carefully opened the door.

The girl leaned into Autumn’s chest. She could feel her heartbeat and her warmth. It calmed her down.

Auumn quietly made her way to the bathroom, where she set the girl down, still telling her what she was doing, and grabbed a rag from the closet. She dampened the cloth and reached over to clean the girl's face.

"Do you mind if I do this?" she asked gently, pausing what she was doing.

The girl let Autumn go and curled up onto the toilet, shaking. Her shirt was in tatters and her pants seemed to be stretched. She looked up again when Autumn approached and she nodded slowly.

Autumn gently began to clean off the girl's face. It took a while, but she finally finished and pulled back to smile at her.

"You're a pretty girl. What's your name, hun?" she asked softly.

The girl’s nose was broken and bleeding freely now that the dirt had been cleaned off. She was pale and palid, but still round-eyed and girly.
She opened her mouth to speak, but her voice came out shaky and undistinguishable.

“All right, why don’t I get you some water?” Autumn suggested. “I’ll be right back. You just stay here, okay?”

The girl nodded and spotted a towel, reaching for it, grabbing it off of the hook and curling up in it. It was fuzzy and warm. She liked towels. Her father always laughed and poked fun at her when she curled up, but she giggled with him. Thinking of her father brought tears to her eyes.

Autumn gave her a small smile before she stepped out of the bathroom. Before she got a glass of water, she headed to the bedroom to get Alex.

“Alex. Babe. I need you to get up,” she whispered, shaking him gently.

Alex twitched when she shook him awake. He made a couple unhappy noises before opening his eyes and looking up at her.
“W-whaaaat?”

“Um… So, I may or may not have just found a very beaten up little girl in the bushes, and she may or may not be in the bathroom…” Autumn said, giving him a sheepish smile.

Alex glanced at her and raised his eyebrows. “Really? Do you want me to keep an eye out on her?”

“…You’re not upset that I just let a strange girl into your house?” Autumn asked, her eyebrows furrowing slightly.

Alex relaxed into the bed. “How old is she?”

“Um… She looked about ten,” Autumn said, glancing toward the door.

Alex shrugged. “Mum always fostered cute little kids. I don’t really mind them.”
