Well, I'm their only child. Lucas looked back up at Callie, quivering. They're going to want to betroth me to a woman.
My Heart Is Like The Ocean Searching // O/O // Closed
Callie pursed his lips, thinking. That won't happen for a while, will it? You'll have to tell them eventually, but hopefully not soon.
I don't know. It's not uncommon for princes and princesses to marry even younger than I am. Lucas bit his lip, worry filling his eyes.
We can hold it off, then. Long enough for you to tell them, Callie reassured him, his other arm still safely around Lucas.
It'll be a huge thing. Lucas sighed. Who knows how the public will take the news that the only heir to the throne is. He paused, thinking. I don't know the sign for it. That I like boys.
Callie demonstrated it to him, the lifting and crossing of the fingers, with a small smile. And B-I-S-E-X-U-A-L is this, He continued, showing Lucas another sign, with the thumb crossed and pinky finger stuck out.
Lucas repeated both signs a couple times until he'd memorized them. Here, let's try it to make sure I'm doing it right. I'm gay for you. Lucas looked up at Callie to see if he'd successfully conveyed the message.
Callie blushed the smallest bit, the smile on his face only growing. Good. I'm gay for you too.
Lucas grinned, pleased with his success. He flushed lightly when he processed Callie's response as well. How will we break the news to them when the time comes?
Callie shrugged lightly, not exactly sure himself. I don't know. I mean…my mom was gay, so I just told her I was bisexual one night and it was fine.
I have a feeling it won't blow over that easy for me. If I were like, anyone else, it would be fine, but considering I'm the prince… He sighed, rubbing his eyes with his hands before signing again. It would be a huge scandal. I wouldn't be surprised if that kind of news made it all around the world.
I know. Callie didn't sign for a minute or two, thinking, and eventually deciding on something very simple, if not ineffective. You don't have to worry about it now, though.
I can't just wing it when it comes up. I need to be prepared for something like this or we will not be allowed to see each other ever again. He rubbed at his eyes again, trembling.
Hey. It's okay, Callie signed reassuringly, holding Lucas closer to himself to calm him. What's the worst thing that could happen if you told them flat-out?
I don't know. I suppose they'd want to disown me, but me being their only child and all, I don't think they would. They'd never see me the same and always be disappointed in me. They'd say they still love me, but they wouldn't. Lucas stared blankly at the wall, his eyes shining with tears.
Callie ran a finger across his cheekbone to comfort him, pursing his lips slightly. And the best thing?
Lucas considered for a moment. They'd accept me anyways and I'd be allowed to marry for love. It would likely still be a huge scandal, but it's going to be no matter how it goes down.
Callie nodded. So that's what you focus on. That. Something will happen one way or another, and there's not much we can do about it no matter how you tell them. So just focus on that.
But I don't want them to hate me. Lucas bit his lip, quietly whimpering, although Callie couldn't hear it. I'm scared.
It'll be okay. I'll be there. You'll be okay, Callie reassured him, knowing that Lucas was probably right. His parents might very well hate him, but as Callie had said, there was no way they could change that no matter how he told them.
Lucas nodded hesitantly and hugged Callie again. He figured he'd still end up living in the castle despite his sexuality, but having to live with his parents' hatred would be incredibly difficult.
Callie hugged him back just as tightly, a little anxiety tugging at his chest as he mulled over the issue, not knowing what to do. He wanted Lucas to be happy and live a happy life - with or without him but preferably with him - but he also knew that there would probably be a couple challenges.
After a few minutes, Lucas pulled away so he could sign. We should probably go soon or my absence will become suspicious. I don't want to get caught.
Callie nodded, letting his arms fall off of Lucas reluctantly, as if he didn't want to let go of him just yet.
Lucas hesitated before getting off of Callie and holding out his hand to help him to his feet. We can go to my room.
Callie smiled a little, blushing as he nodded. You should let them know you're still here.
He nodded as well, quietly leaving the room with Callie. He went to the throne room to tell his parents where he was going before retreating to his own room. The room was quite nice, as expected, but more cozy feeling than most rooms in the castle. The walls were a nice gray blue color with white on the bottom half, there were white curtains on each of the windows, and the bed matched the walls. He had a queen sized bed that wasn't made, as he didn't often have visitors who'd be going in his room. Besides the basic things like dressers, there was a couch in one corner, a sword leaning against the wall, a violin laying in a chair, and a corner full of bookshelves.
This is really nice, Callie commented, looking around at everything with a soft smile. The sword threw him a little off guard, but he had seen worse things than that lying around in people's rooms.
Lucas smiled. Thanks. Sorry it's a bit of a mess. I don't usually have anyone in here. He picked up the sword and moved it so it wouldn't be in the way.
Not any more of a mess than my own room, Callie signed to him, thinking of his own mess of an apartment. Well, half-his. Some people he lived with he didn't even know. Rather shady characters, they were.
