“Oh, yes, please,” Daisy agreed, turning back to her fake fiancé’s mother with a smile. “I’m definitely ready for that.”

After eating, Taylor began to pick up the dishes. Naturally, Arvil followed after her. He had grown up helping her, after all.

“The food was great, by the way,” he complimented her, giving her a grin. “As always, mom.”

“It was very good, Taylor,” Daisy agreed as she picked up a few dishes as well. Just because she hadn’t had to help with dishes growing up didn’t mean that she didn’t have any manners. Plus, she did her own dishes, anyway.

“Thank you,” his mother beamed, then sent them a grateful smile. “Why don’t you guys set them in the dishwasher while I grab Arvil’s childhood photos? I’m sure he’s shown you zero.”

“Mom,” Arvil nearly groaned. “It’s not necessary.”

She ignored him completely.

Daisy grinned, laughing slightly as she set the dishes in the dishwasher as directed. Once Taylor was gone, she looked over at Arvil with mischief in her eyes.

Finally, I can see your baby pictures,” she teased.

Arvil scowled at her, though he was also setting dishes in the dishwasher.

“Now, don’t be so excited, love,” he muttered under his breath. “But do prepare to fall in love. I was beautiful even as a baby.”

“Well, hey, I was a pretty adorable baby, too, but my baby pictures didn’t make you fall in love with me,” Daisy teased under her breath. She playfully poked him in the side before helping to load the dishwasher.

Arvil smirked at her. “Hey, there’s a difference between my baby pictures and yours,” he chuckled, shaking his head. “Would you have preferred me falling in love with baby you?”

Daisy snorted and rolled her eyes. “Would you prefer me falling in love with you as a baby?” she turned the question back on him, raising her eyebrows.

Arvil gave her a smile that seemed to answer her question. Then he went back to setting the glasses they’d used in the dishwater, pleased to know that all of the dishes were in it now.

Daisy shook her head. Of course he would think that. The man would be the death of her, and she knew he would.

“Oh. We’re done,” she realized suddenly after having gone to grab another dish.

“Yes, yes we are, Daisy,” Arvil chuckled, having to hold himself back from a different remark. “Come on, let’s go see what my mother is up to.”

“Well, is hope that she’s getting baby pictures ready to show me,” Daisy said with a smirk up at him as she followed him out to the living room.

There were pictures, yes. A lot of them. Arvil’s mother showed as many of them to Daisy as she could. Arvil silently waited for it to be over.

Finally, it was.

“Thank God,” he muttered. “That was too boring.”

“I thought it was adorable and hilarious,” Daisy said with a grin and a slight laugh. “Especially the bath pictures and messy food ones.”

“Of course you’d think that,” Arvil chuckled. “I was a chubby baby, but I was still a lady killer.”

Daisy hummed noncommittally, still smiling a little. “I was cuter, though,” she declared with a chuckle.

“Of course,” Arvil teased. “Cute beyond words. Now you are beautiful.”

Daisy snorted, pushing his arm playfully. “And you, nerd, are handsome,” she said with a roll of her eyes, though she smiled.

Taylor cleared her throat, and only then did Arvil realize they had started to flirt in front of his mother. He didn’t feel embarrassed.

“Ah, I heard about the situation with Cam, too,” his mother mused. “I hope the rumors weren’t too much for you, Daisy. The media can be crazy.”

Daisy’s gaze shot to Taylor, and her cheeks flushed slightly in embarrassment. She hadn’t meant to flirt with Arvil, not really, but that must have been what it seemed like… He was, after all, very handsome. But that wasn’t the point.

“Oh. No, no… It was fine. We handled it,” she said eventually, her smile slipping for just a moment.

Taylor smiled in response, her eyes crinkling. After a while of talking, finally Arvil stood up.

“Well, mom, it was nice visiting you again,” he said softly. “You rest. I’ll come again soon.”

“It was wonderful meeting you, Taylor,” Daisy said, both her words and her smile genuine. “I hope to see you again soon.”

“You’d better drag my son over, too,” Taylor said as she pulled Daisy into a warm hug. “He says he’ll visit, but he won’t.”

Arvil gasped. “How can you say that?”

His mother’s wrinkled face scowled at him.

Daisy laughed softly as she hugged he older woman back. “Oh, I will, trust me. And he’ll never hear the end of it if he doesn’t come,” she assured her half-jokingly.

Arvil rolled his eyes. “Har har, very funny, darling,” he muttered under his breath. “I knew you both would get along spectacularly.”

Daisy simply grinned at her fake fiancé when she pulled out of the hug. “Of course. Now, I believe we were going to leave your poor mother to rest? After dealing with you, I’m sure she must be just absolutely exhausted.”

Arvil gasped at her. “Hey! That was uncalled for. I never tire out my beautiful mother.”

“I’ve got grey streaks because of you, son,” Taylor commented. “You exhaust me.”

Daisy laughed, looking between mother and son. “What did I say, Arvil? You’re tiring. Now, let’s let your poor mother rest.”

Arvil grumbled under his breath. A few minutes later, after proper goodbyes, they were in his car, ready to go home.

“That went excellently,” he remarked. “Now you have a partner to harass me with.”
