“About thirty minutes of it’s a short day, an hour of it’s a long day… Like today,” Daisy said as she led him toward the door. “So it’s an hour.”

“All right,” Arvil hummed, spinning the keys around his finger. “So I get to have your attention for a whole hour.”

“If I choose to give it to you,” Daisy hummed, smirking a bit as she stepped out the front door. “So it depends, doesn’t it?”

Arvil scowled at her, coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her.

“Nopes, you’re mine for the hour,” he declared. “No objections.”

“Hey! No kidnapping people! That’s frowned upon in our society, you know,” Daisy objected, squirming in his arms as another blush rose to her cheeks. The last time they’d been in this position… had turned out to be very awkward…

“It’s not kidnapping if the victim gives her consent,” he said, knowing exactly where her mind had wandered off to. That time, he had been unprepared. He was sure he wouldn’t make the same mistake again. “Besides, You’d gladly let me kidnap you.”

“Oh yeah? Whoever said that?” Daisy questioned him, still writhing in his grip. “Lemme go, you big nerd.”

“Let me think about that,” Arvil said jokingly, tightening his told on her. “Nah.”

Daisy huffed and stopped squirming in his arms. “Fine, then. I’ll just… do this,” she said as she dropped all of her weight and sank to the ground.

“Whoa!” Arvil stumbled a little, that having been unexpected. Then he glanced at her, and a mischievous smirk laced his lips. “Then I’ll do this, I suppose.”

Still holding on to her tight, he bent down, slipped his arms under her knees, and picked her up in his arms.

“Hey! That’s not fair. Put me down, you dork,” Daisy protested, frowning up at him.

“Absolutely not,” Arvil chuckled, already making his way to his car. “You asked for it.”

“Actually, I’d argue that I asked for exactly the opposite of this,” Daisy muttered. She huffed, though the sound was half-hearted, and turned to face away from him.

“Aw, is my flower upset?” Arvil teased her, leaning down to nuzzle her cheek. “We’re almost there, darling.”

Heat rose to her cheeks again. “…My flower…?”

“Sure. Upset. Would that make you put me down?” she questioned, turning to glare up at him.

Her cheeks flushed again. God, she was brilliant. He adored her too much.

“Not really,” he answered, winking at her. “Plus, we’re here already.”

Daisy huffed and rolled her eyes again, poking his arm. “Then put me down, nerd,” she muttered, glancing at his car.

“Here you are, my gorgeous writer,” Arvil set her down gently before pressed the unlock button on his controller. “After you.”

Daisy hummed, glancing up at him before opening the passenger side door of the car. She slipped inside, then closed it after herself. Once in the car, she leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes for a moment. It was going to be an interesting break, wasn’t it?

Arvil walked over to his side of the car, opened the door, and sat inside. He buckled his seatbelt before he started the engine, waiting for a few seconds before backing out of the parking lot.

“So,” he broke the silence. “Chipotle.”

“Yes, Chipotle. Have you ever been before?” Daisy asked, turning to face him as she asked.

“Of course,” Arvil responded, drumming his fingers against the steering wheel. “Why do you think I haven’t?”

Daisy shrugged, then realized he might not be able to see her. “I don’t know, really. I was just curious. I’m sure there are people who haven’t been before.”

“I haven’t been there in a while now,” Arvil admitted. “It had always been takeout. I never stayed and ate at a restaurant unless it was for a business meeting.”

“Oh, all right. Makes sense,” Daisy mused, nodding a couple of times. “I used to go there all the time, but then I got busy, too. I go once or twice a month, now.”

“It’s weird how we talk so formally,” Arvil muttered under his breath. “All the time. Have you noticed that?”

Daisy blinked, then looked back up at him. “Oh… Well, I guess, uh… It might be because I just really don’t know what to talk about? I’m not a people person, Arvil,” she said with a sigh. “Sorry that this is so awkward…”

“No, I understand completely,” Arvil quickly assured her. “I’m like that, too, and I don’t mind. I just noticed how we always talk like this.”

group

“Well, yeah, I guess we do,” Daisy agreed musingly, tilting her head to the side in thought. “And I’m glad that you don’t have a problem with that. This is just how I talk to most people, anyway.”

Arvil simply shrugged. Soon, they were at their destination, and Arvil parked the car.

“Here we are,” he breathed. “We wasted ten minutes, so now I have you for fifty.”
