In an already nervous state, Ariel was caught by surprise and let out a yelp. Everyone turned to look at her. Oh no.

Danny perks up, all thought of laughter gone, and looks Ariel straight in the eyes.
No way… You're not… You can't be… Are you? He thinks towards her.
Then he does start laughing.
No… no way!
She apologised to the class, and could feel Danny staring at her. Don’t look over. Don’t look over.
Danny is racked by laughter until the teacher tells him to calm down and answer a question (which he miraculously gets right).
All the while he’s thinking, Thats just too funny! She can’t be, right? Can you hear me right now, Ariel?
Don’t. Look. Over.
But, not being able to resist, she nods. Why was he laughing though? What part of this horrible situation was funny?
Danny sees Ariel nod out of the corner of his eye and freezes. He turns to her fully and gives her a questioning look.
No. Way. He thinks.
If you are that’s way too cool. Like, this better be real.
Ariel couldn’t help herself, and pulled a face. Then the bell rang.
Ariel leapt out of her seat and stuffed her books away, standing in front of Danny’s desk not even a minute later.
Danny gasps and laughs as soon as the bell rings. The teacher watches helplessly as the students all jump up without waiting for the teacher to dismiss them and simply turns to erase the whiteboard for the next class.
"Ariel. I'm your best friend. If you were a mind-reader, you'd tell me, right?" Danny starts.
"Um…" Didn't he already know? "Yes, I guess I would," she ventured sheepishly, wringing her hands together.
