“…I’m not understanding this,” Daichi uttered. “…Where on earth did those cuts come from?”
(I actually have no idea what just happened)
“…I’m not understanding this,” Daichi uttered. “…Where on earth did those cuts come from?”
(I actually have no idea what just happened)
(You know how burns and cuts hurt differently? Burns throb more whereas cuts are more stinging. Rigel cut himself on his burnt hand because he thought the burn felt to much like the time Peter lit his skin on fire, so he wanted to make it hurt differently)
“I-I-I made them,” Rigel stuttered out, shoulders shaking with each sob that came out of him.
(Ok lol I was like dah fuq?)
Daichi was left with pure confusion still. “….But why?”
“Don’t… h… hurt yourself…..” Kohaku cried, tears bleeding from her closed eyes. “D… don’t…. I’m…. it’s my fault….” She began to choke up in an attempt to hold back her embarrassing whimpers.
“It’s not- it’s not y-your fault, it’s m-m-mine,” Rigel protested through his sobs, hand shaking at this point. “I-I thought I was back there, in the- the room,” Rigel got out, tears dripping down his face and onto his shirt.
“If I never would’ve burned you…..” Kohaku cried, her tears turning into steam on the stone slab. “You wouldn’t have hurt yourself….” She curled up more, feeling more and more helpless. It’s true.. it’s true…. it never would’ve happened…. it never……
Rigel couldn’t speak, the sobs overtaking him and the mere fact that he resorted to self harm brought more pain than it should have. He didn’t want to face those demons within him, he wanted to force all the bad memories away from him.
Daichi let go of Rigel’s hand. “I’m unsure what you want anymore….” He sighed, getting an idea that he wasn’t sure what to do with him at that point. I got two crying kids… I…. What do I do?… A dim lightbulb went off in his head, and he asked him, “…Would you like me to heal your hand…?”
Rigel nodded silently, completely ashamed, and he lifted his hand so Daichi could fix it. He wished everything could be fixed this easily. Rigel wished they had never seen it, so he wouldn’t have to answer to it. So he wouldn’t be viewed as unstable.
Daichi allowed the healing essence to smoke from his hand, the pads of his paw turning a faded green as he hovered it over the burn and series of cuts.
Within seconds, the redness of the feiry burn dissipated, and the blood red slits were completely gone— not even a scar remained. “There. All better,” He said with a satisfactory sigh.
Yet, Kohaku was still sobbing….
Rigel curled his arms around himself, his sobs slowly fading to sniffles, “It’s not you fault… it’s not your fault…” He mumbled, wiping at his eyes that continued to leak.

(Okay….)
Kohaku’s crying died down to a few coughs. “…. no….” She said, tears evaporating from her face instantaneously. “….no….”
(It’s a good song, just wanted to share lol)
“Don’t you see, it’s my fault, it’s not yours, it’s not your fault,” Rigel got out sadly, his eyes holding a darkness in them. He was haunted by his past, and he probably would be for as long as Peter was alive, maybe longer.
Kohaku wasn’t sure what to say— she knew that man was bad, but she never had the idea of how bad he really was. “…But… I… can’t help you….” She fell back asleep quickly, and she didn’t feel like being awake anymore. She couldn’t argue— he was right.
Rigel watched her for a second, eyes filled with sorrow before he looked away. (SHould the elk guy come in now?)
(Oh yeah I just wanted to give him some alone-ish time…. Lol I really need to give him a name, but I need something for that that I don’t have…)
“I have finally arrived…” The elk came through, ducking so his antlers wouldn’t scrape the doorway. “Unfortunately, this all I could find….” He set down a basket of three salmon fish. “With me being a fire weilder, it makes things five times tougher…. However, I did manage to convince the others to go out fishing as well.”
Daichi was a bit worrisome. “Do you know when they’ll come back?”
“That, I’m unsure of…”
Rigel listened quietly, trying to take up as little of space as possible in the room. He wished today would have never started, he wished that he had never woken up in the first place.
(Lol the room is like as big as a regular classroom at school)
“Well, I’ll cook up what I can for us, and we’ll have something to eat…” He was on his way out when he turned to Rigel. “Are you okay with having fish?? I mean, you don’t have an allergy to it, do you…?”
(He’s doing that more out of his nature/state of mind rn, not because the room is small)
“I-I don’t have an allergy, but I don’t really need to eat anything…” Rigel trailed off, chewing his lip. It’d be better if they ate it instead, I’m not supposed to be here- I don’t fit in.
(Oh wow oof I’m terrible)
“You haven’t eaten anything since you got to Katsumi,” Daichi said gruffly. “If you don’t eat anything you’re sure to die….”
“Well, I’ll cook up everything I have, just in case you happen to change your mind.” He left, and minutes after he disappeared, an extremely wet Youichi stopped in the doorway, his arm full of freshly caught salmon. “I’m back! Did Naoki tell you anything about where to put the fish we got??” He caught sight of Kohaku, who was barely moving, let alone breathing. “Kohaku???? You awake???”
Rigel didn’t make a comment, wishing he could disappear into the wall. He wanted to give up. He didn’t want to keep fighting any longer. Rigel wanted to know that all of them were safe, and then be gone.
Kohaku stayed quiet.
Daichi walked on over, taking a look at her face. “Kohaku? Respond if you hear me…. Kohaku…” He touched her shoulder to shake her awake, and was badly burned. He howled, stepping back. S—She’s overheating!!!
“Kohaku?” Rigel was immediately at attention, rushing to Kohaku’s side, his hand wavering over her just an inch from touching her burning skin. The heat was radiating off of her skin like a furnace. “Kohaku?!?”
Youichi was dancing around, unsure of what to do. “Gimme your fish so I can go get Naoki!”
He did so and the kitsune took off down the hall. Mamoru went to her side with everyone else, feeling the strong heat from her. “Oh lord….” He wasn’t sure what to do— they could either douse the coals or move her from the slab, which would be impossible given her intense head radiation.
“Kohaku!!” Daichi barked, nursing his hand. “Wakde up!!”
When Kohaku didn’t respond, Rigel didn’t know what else to do. So he went for it- grabbed Kohaku and pulling her off the slab in one quick moment, a yelp of immense pain escaping his throat and he stumbled back, his skin burning and his shirt lighting on fire. But he didn’t drop Kohaku, tumbling to the ground where he let go, rolling away in a ball of flames and pain.
(I dunno if the heat was intense enough to catch his shirt on fire, oof)
Daichi was unsure how to react. “Rigel!!” He barked, and nearly everyone plunged into chaos.
But Youichi arrived with Naoki, who was howling, “Douse the coals!!! Douse the coals!!!!” The kitsune shot water from his palms, soaking the slab and putting out the coals, as well as putting out Rigel before he got too burnt.
Kohaku was still on the floor, covered in the fire-proof blanket.
Daichi healed his own hand and turned to Naoki. “…What the hell did you do?”
(Oof, sorry, I wasn’t quite sure)
Rigel whimpered, curling in on himself. The burn was covering his body in blistering pain. “K—Ko… Kohaku……” He whimpered out, the skin on his hands peeling off it was so burnt and he could hardly move and inch without making the pain worse. Rigel could hardly breathe.
Daichi stepped on over, and Naoki quickly joined him. “S— She was overheating,” The panda stuttered.
“I knew that would happen…. with combination of the healing Tsuchi essence, she would rest up, but I’m afraid all the fire did was heat her up…”
“Will she recover from that?” Youichi said from the back of the room, face full of worry.
“Fortunately, all she needs is a little time….” He took the blanket off her scorching body. “And she’ll cool down soon enough.”
Rigel closed his eyes, and he was in the room again. He let out another pained whimper, opening his watering eyes. The skin on his hands was practically burnt off. And it hurt.
Kohaku’s tail twitched a little, bringing a nice sigh of relief to everyone. “…D…Daichi…? Mamoru….?” She said faintly. “R….Rigel….? Wh… Where am I?” She was still a bit weary, but was doing much better. Her eyes opened up, and she didn’t care one bit that she was on the floor.
Rigel heard her voice, a candle in the darkness of his mind, “Kohaku…” He breathed, another sound of pain coming out of him at the burns over his chest and arms. “Ko—Koha…… Kohaku……………”
