George's heart stumbled over several beats in a row. "Oh—Oh."

"I can tell you're nervous," Bailey teased.
"You're not?" he mumbled, swallowing.
"I used to lead men to their deaths," he spoke in a languid tone, "This is nothing in comparison.."
".. Ah. Right." George had to tear his gaze away from Bailey's lips.
He smiled again. "Smile for me."
George followed instructions, tentatively at first, then grew more confident.
That made Bailey smile in turn. "Handsome."
George blushed. “I am?”
"Yeah," the man replied, reaching around George to steal an apple slice.
"I'm glad you think so…." he murmured. "I think you're handsome, too."
He pushed hair from his eyes, and grunted in a pleased tone as he chewed.
George took an apple slice as well, unsure of how to proceed.
Bailey ruffled George's hair, and headed off. It was almost bewildering, how he could shoulder all this romantic tension.
George watched him go, practically rooted to the spot. How he could shrug this off as if it was nothing….. God, did he wish he had that talent.
