He shrugged his shoulders. "Then again, t'was a rumor." He spoke, standing up to meander slowly from the room.

Jane shook her head. "You're lying. John wouldn't do such a thing."

"Everybody lies." He spoke simply, and left.

Jane was left alone with her thoughts, heartbroken and confused.

Jane had fully recovered by the time John was to return home. She rushed around the house and cleaned feverishly the day he was supposed to arrive.

Chadine chased behind her, trying to help where she could, reminding Jane not to strain her body too much. She had a feeling her words landed on deaf ears, though.

Jane eventually heard the doorbell ring. She hurried to the door and opened it quickly.

Her husband stood there, his eyes lit up. "Jane," he breathed, taking her in for a moment. "Jane.." he hugged her.

Jane hugged him tightly. "Oh, John!" she cried, tears forming in her eyes.

He pressed a hand to the back of her head. "I'm so glad you're okay.. my love.."

She kissed his neck happily. "I missed you so much…" she whispered.

He hugged her a little tighter. She could almost feel the exhaustion radiating from him, the way his shoulders hunched and his eyes glazed.

"Come inside, I'll fix you something to eat," she murmured, not wanting to pull away.

He bent down to kiss her first. Deep, longing, but not enough to make up for his absence.

"thank you," Bailey smiled

George shrugged, clearly a little embarrassed.

Jane savored his lips. A stray thought struck her heart. "He experienced a bit of a passionate night with an unmarried woman, drowned senselessly in his glass of hard alcohol…" She pushed it abruptly aside and kissed him softly. Her husband was home, and she was once again safe in his arms.

"thank you," Bailey smiled

George shrugged, clearly a little embarrassed.

He bent down to kiss her first. Deep, longing, but not enough to make up for his absence.

"I love you.." John croaked, pressing his nose to her forehead. "Let's go inside, then.."

"Okay," she whispered. "I love you too."

“Am I?” Shifting where he sat, he began to pick at a few balls of lint that had attached themselves to his pant leg.

He shuffled inside, letting his coat off his shoulders. "I missed home," he laughed sleepily.

“Am I?” Shifting where he sat, he began to pick at a few balls of lint that had attached themselves to his pant leg.

"Yes." Bailey humored.

He shuffled inside, letting his coat off his shoulders. "I missed home," he laughed sleepily.

"I missed you," she replied, taking his coat and hanging it up. "Oh!" she suddenly cried. She grabbed his hand and placed it to her stomach. Roo was kicking again.

His tired face lit up. "Oh, I missed you two!"

She cupped his face with her cheek and tears welled in her eyes. "I missed you more," she said with a laugh.

"How is Chadine treating you?" He asked softly, taking her hand to kiss over and over.

"Wonderful. She's been a darling," Jane enthused.
