Melanie ignored him and looked for any means of escape, in case she had to run. She probably would be caught by Fox, but she looked anyways. "I'm not sorry for what I said earlier, even if you can talk now."
"I mean, some of it is true. I haven't been through all of that, but I've still been through my own hell. At least maybe this can put us back on the good note." Fox takes out the bread in a container, and slides it to Melanie. "I don't really need to eat, I haven't needed to for years."
(Just noticed @I’m-the-Emi-to-the-Emily-Who-Is-Not-Part-of-S.A.D™ is on, BTW Jax is like right outside of Met's room, here's the thing for that, I also forgot one so RIP :P)
Eventually Jax finds his way to what seems to be another cell, someone is inside still.

"I don't want it." Melanie slides it forcefully back, hitting the wall hard. "I'm not hungry," Melanie lied, not wanting to admit that she was weak.

"You give me time. That's all I need. Time to think. Time to talk. And eventually, time to trust." Melanie's voice was serious, and she never is usually this serious unless she's talking about her past or when she's angry/upset.
"Ok, I'll give you that. I have a shit ton of that." Fox does a little bow
"No need to be modest. Here, I should be thanking you for not killing me already. I won't, not anytime soon." Melanie sighed softly, "You know your way around here better than me, so I guess I'll have to stick with you…"
"Why would I kill you? It wouldn't do either of us good, and you haven't been really as bad as the 'doctors.' Which they really aren't… To be honest, I wasn't even supposed to be at this damn asylum, but they still tried to 'fix' me."
"Those 'doctors' did this to me!" Melanie gestured to herself, "They made me see things! They made me scared, and weak, and frail. If it weren't for-They would kill me on the spot if they didn't think I was valuable! And-and I'm not…" Melanie sat on the ground, clenching and unclenching her jaw and hands, fighting the oncoming tears. She wouldn't show any sign of weakness, not even to Fox.
"You are valuable, you're valuable because… you would make a really good friend. You were really concerned about Jax, and I… wasn't as concerned. Not that I wasn't concerned about Jax at all, I was just trying to… give him space."
Fox moves their arms out a little. "You want a hug?"
"I am not valuable! I am just a thing! A toy for them to play with! To manipulate! A nicer doctor told me…he told me that once they were bored, they'd kill me. And that he felt no pity…"
"You are valuable, maybe not to them! But to us, you are valuable. Don't believe in a 'Nicer' in them, cause you won't get it. They either lie straight to your face, or tell the truth."
"Us? There is no us. I'm merely following you because I've never explored beyond my room. I couldn't. The doctors gave me a reason to be curious, to keep trying to live. In a way, they did help me…"
"…I'll just lead the way." Fox slowly walks off, not really making sure Melanie is following them.
Melanie, after hesitating, drifts behind him, keeping herself as far away as she can without losing sight of Fox
After going through a few doors, Fox stops, looking up at a vent.
"N-no. Those tunnels are scary. I've seen monsters in there before," Melanie says, six feet away. "They might get me…"
