Maya and Lukas had been talking for a while. They were both stressed about Riley being in the hospital. "Riley's gone, OK Lukas? She's gone and she's not coming back. And now we need to pick up the pieces."

He shook his head frantically "no, she's going to be ok, she has to be. SHe can't leave us like this…not now." He fidgeted with his hands as they paced around the parking lot "she's alright, she's alright…"

"She's not gonna get through this! Have you seen her?! She's been in a coma for a week and nothing's changed!"

"people have been in coma's longer and survived!" He yelled back, furiously walking to a curb and sitting down, burying his head in his hands

"She's gone, Lukas! She's past everything and she's not coming back! She's gone!"

"how can you say that Maya? She's your friend! How can you lose hope for that quickly?!" He looked up at her with bloodshot eyes and shook his head "I don't believe that she's gone, I won't."

"I lost hope in everything when I was 5!" Maya yelled. "Fine! She's not gone. I'm gone. I'm the one that's gone."

He glanced up "you're not leaving me too, I won't allow that. Promise me you won't leave me too." He said quietly

"I can't promise that, Lukas! I can't promise anything, and no one sees that! I'm broken!"

He stood and grabbed her by the shoulders, forcing her to meet his gaze "you are NOT broken Maya, and you are NOT gone, not to me your not. That's all that matters."

Maya wrestled out of his grasp. "That doesn't matter one bit! It never has! I've been broken for a long time. You might not see it, but it's there."

He gaze turned dark and his hands dropped to his side "so when me and dad brought you out of that hell you were living and brought you into our home, that didn't matter? When I held your trembling form in my arms while you cried day and night, that meant nothing?! And it never has?!" He shook with rage and turned away "we're all broken Maya, but there are those who are shattered, beyond repair."

"You brought me into hell, not our of it. My mother was the only person who'd loved me without expecting anything in return. She might have rarely been home, but she did what she could so that I could live."

"If course you expected things in return. Everyone does. Riley always expects me to be there even when I can't be. You expect me to be your girlfriend just because we like each other. All my mother ever wanted from me was to be her daughter. And that's all I could give her."
