With a bright smile, she took his hand and looked back at the ocean one more time before starting towards the inland of the island.
Touch The Sky//One-On-One//Closed
As they walked farther into the island the trees and plants got thicker, giving them shade. The soft sand turned into a rougher dirt with tall grass and flowers growing from it, there was a soft breeze that shuffled the leaves against one another and the birds could be heard chirping along with bugs and other things making their variety of noises. The light shining through the leaves gave a soft green haze around them with beams of sunlight escaping through the gaps.
"Wow…this place is beautiful.." She whispered to herself, eyes wide in amazement as she looked around at absolutely everything. It was so green here, and the animals actually made noise, making the place seem even more alive.
"It is isn't it?" He hadn't really stopped to appreciate the beauty of this little island since this had all been so normal to Keiran, but thinking about it from Naudias perspective and how she's likley never seen anything like this ever gave him a deeper appreciation for their surroundings.
Nautia nodded eagerly, slowing down to admire one of the trees and its leaves, "This is absolutely amazing.."
"I think we should be far enough away from shore where no one can see you now." He slowed down with her so she could have more of a chance to look around.
Again she nodded, but her eyes didn't leave their surroundings as she took in everything that was happening. It was breathtakingly beautiful compared to the home she was used to. "Is all of the planet besides the oceans this pretty Keiran?"
Keiran looked around with her before looking back to her. "Well, I guess it depends. Different places in the world look very different." He answered.
"Are there places in the world that are this green?" She asked, turning and looking to him before motioning around with an amazed look, "I've never felt the ground beneath my feet before this, and leaves don't make noise when they move, they just swish around. The noises from animals are amazing. Wow…"
He smiled "Yeah there are plenty of places like this, none are quite the same as eachother though. Every place is unique." He explained trying to word everything in a way that makes sense. "I guess it makes sense that sounds are muffled underwater."
Nautia nodded, smiling again at trying to create what these places looked like in her mind, "The sounds are slightly muffled like you said, but there aren't as many. as well. Maybe you'll hear a whale in the distance, or the waves at the surface, but other than that, others like me are the only really sound underwater."
He thought for a moment, imagining what it would be like underwater. "It sounds…calm, it's hard to find any quiet up here." He laughed lightly.
"I'm not a fan of how quiet it is, but yes..sometimes it can be very calming," She replied, thinking back to her ocean home and the variety of sounds you could hear, mostly from the animals calling to each other, or voices of merpeople, "I like the noise of up here."
"I can understand that, silence can be both serene and…suffocating." He answered, remembering moments where silence played part in the loneliest points of his travels.
Nautia nodded, agreeing, "There are times I love how quiet it is underwater, especially when exploring the reefs and caves, but most of the time I enjoy the fact that there are others around and I'm not alone."
Keiran smiled "That's a nice way to think about it."
Her smile grew and she nodded once again, starting to walk deeper into the island to look around. It was all beautiful and she had a million questions bursting at the seams of her mind, but she kept quiet anyway.
Keiran followed Naudias lead, letting her take everything in on her own terms rather than just following him around. He kept in kind the direction to the beach as they wandered.
"So what are these called?" She asked somewhat timidly, motioning to a few flowers scattered around. Nautia had seen them before, by the beach, but she had no clue what they were called. It seemed stupid to ask, but she did anyway.
"I think those are hibiscus flowers." He crouched down to where the flowers were growing, picked one up and offered it to Naudia.
She nodded, taking the flower from him and looking at it in amazement, "These are flowers? I've heard of those before, but i've never seen them before."
"Yeah, flowers grow all over the place up here in all different shapes and colours." He answered
"One of the older mermaids talked about flowers called daisies, are those still around?" She asked, thinking back to the tales she was told as a kid by one of the mermaids that had explored the word before it was illegal to. Her eyes flicked to him and back to the flower as she brushed a finger over the petals, worried she was going to accidentally break it.
"Yeah daisies are beautiful, they grew all over where I grew up!" He answered happily. "I doubt we'll find any on this island though."
A small smile grew over her face, "But they still exist? Even if they're not on this island?" It was clear she was amazed and wanted to learn more about the flowers and just the world in general.
"They still exist." He answered, enjoying being able to help her fill her curiosity.
"That's amazing..do you know how many different species of flowers are on earth?" She asked, cocking her head to the side slightly in question.
"Oh uh" He thought for a second and laughed lightly "I have no idea, there are a lot though probably thousands."
A smile settled onto her face and she nodded, turning the flower in her hand and admiring all the petals and colors of it, "Are they all as pretty as this flower?"
"I think so, it depends on the person though I guess." He answered, smiling softly as she studied the flower.
