Ashley nodded and laid back down on their bed. She turned to look at him, a small smile finally making its way to her lips.
“Will you be joining me soon?” she wondered quietly, yawning.

“I’m going going to use the bathroom and then I’ll join you,” he said, patting her on the head lightly. “You go to sleep, okay?”

Lucas kissed her on the forehead.
“Goodnight, sweetheart,” he whispered before walking towards the bathroom.
When he was finished, he crawled into bed next to her and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. Although nervousness clawed at his chest, he found himself falling asleep peacefully.

Lucas woke up with a groan, his girlfriend curled up around him. He smiled softly. She looked so peaceful sleeping.
My beautiful girlfriend, Lucas thought fondly, tracing her lips with his thumb. My beautiful pregnant girlfriend.
He had been afraid and nervous when he found out, but after getting some sleep, he realize he wasn’t terrified anymore. He wasn’t going to let anyone treat his girlfriend or his baby poorly just because of the circumstances.
“I’m going to protect you,” Lucas whispered, pressing a soft kiss on Ashley’s forehead, gently as to not wake her up. “Both you and the baby.”

Ashley made a soft sound in her sleep and snuggled closer to Lucas. She sighed, then blinked her eyes open, smiling as she looked up at him sleepily.
“G’morning,” she murmured, the previous night’s events momentarily forgotten. “How’d you sleep?”
