Thomas cursed, “Ow…” he leaned back down with his heads on the armrest, “Broken..” he slurred the repetition.
Siberia stood up and started licking Thomas’ fingers again.
Thomas groaned and moved his hand away from his dog.

Avery grabbed him some pillows. "Here, sit up. Maybe these will make you more comfortable." She placed a pillow behind him. "Are you feeling any better?"

group

Thomas day up with the help of the pillows, “Thank you…and getting there.” He was able to speak more than a word a sentence now, slightly coherently now too, “What…what happened?”

Avery smiled and nodded. "Im not surr. Your dog came to me amd led me to you. I found you unconscious in the snow. I brought you back here as quickly as I was able too. I guess you got in the storm."

group

“Hm..” he smiled, “Good girl..” he placed his hand on his dog’s head, “But don’t lick my fingers..” he mumbled the last sentence, then took a look around her house again, “What’s your name..?”

"I'm Avery." She told him. She went to the kitchen and put the warm broth in a mug. She came back and held it out to him. "Here. Small sips."

group

He reached out to cup the mug in both his hands, but winced, “Ouch…it’s not..cold.” But he took the mug anyway and placed it in his lap.

Avery moved to his side. "Everything alright? Is it too warm? I can put it in the fridge for a few.minutes to cool it off if you need me too."

group

“No, it’s fine.” He brought it up to sip, “Mm..it’s good. Thank you.” He took another sip, “It’s so…”

Avery smiled. "Good, I'm glad." She placed the back of her hand on his cheek. "You're still feeling cold." She got up amd got a thermometer. She ran it along his forehead. She sighed.

group

His temperature had risen to 95.2. Not so low to be considered hypothermia anymore, but it had probably been just below 95 when she first brought him in.

Avery looked down at him with a small smile. "You're getting better. Just keep sipping your broth. Do you want to watch anything on tv maybe?"

group

“Sure..” he mumbled, “I don’t care what, you can put in anything. I might fall asleep in the middle.” He took another sip of the broth.

Avery nodded. She turned the tv on to a random channel. She went to her kitchen and made gerself a sandwich, munching on it as she sat down in a chair in the living room

Thomas stared blankly at the television, “That’s a…nice TV,” he mumbled, “It’s so…picture-y..”
Siberia laid down in front of Thomas on the ground.

Avery chuckled and looked back at him. "Thank you. You're welcome to watch whatever you would like." She took another bite of her sandwhich

group

“Okay…this is fine.” He yawned, reaching down to just barely pet his dog’s back, “I like discovery channel…”

Avery nodded. "Do you need anything else? More pillows, another blanket?" She asked, wanting to do everything she could to make him comfortable.

group

“Another blanket.” He requested, eyes falling from the television to whatever was underneath it. It was all so interesting, “I’m getting cold.”

Avery nodded and stood. She grabbed another blanket for him and gently placed it on his body. "Better?"

group

“Yes, thank you…thank you…” he yawned, “My leg hurts now..can I have medicine?”

Avery nodded. "Im not sure how much it'll help but I'll get you some Advil." She got some medice out of the bathroom then came back and handed him a couple.

group

He reached out his hand to take them, “Thank you.” He lifted them up to his mouth and swallowed them with a generous sip of his now-cooled broth.

Avery nodded. "Of course. If you need anything else, just ask." She took a seat back in her chair. "So what are you doing all the way out here?"

group

“I’m a research botanist.” He replied, “I study and write articles about the plants that survive in harsh winter climates.”

Avery nodded. "Next time you're someplace cold you should check the weather. So you don't get stuck in a storm again."

group

“I was planning on being back to camp before the storm.” He answered, “I’ve been through worse storms, I just fell and broke my leg before I could get inside.”

Avery nodded. "It might be better to be with a partner next time in case something like this happens."

group

“That’s smart..” he nodded, “Partners are annoying, though.” He sighed, “I used to have one.”

Avery chuckled. "Yeah, people can be anniying sometimes." She smiled at him.
