"Well, father sounds like a bitch, no offense."

She let out a surprised laugh. "That is what I called him when I left, actually."

"Good. Cause that philosophy sounds boring as hell. I mean, crying is dramatic and makes life interesting." He smiled lightly.

"I can live with dramatic. I always loved a bit of flare." She joke, mostly done crying.

"Well, good." He looked at her, his smile slowly growing.

"I have to redo my make up now, great." She obviously didn't seem to care that much.

"I think you look beautiful either way." His shoulder was heavily stained with the ink from her eyeliner, but he didn't seem to care.

She flushed a light pink, focusing on the dark spot on his shoulder. "And I have ruined your shirt, too. I apologize."

He shrugged. "I live with a 6 and 3 year old. They've done worse."

"That is a good point." She dabbed at her eyes, growing quiet, and then suddenly spoke. "He wants to have coffee."

"Then what are you waiting for?"

"I-I can't, Eli. Not after-" She shook her head.

"After what?"

"There is a reason I do not talk to my parents, and there is a reason I stopped talking to him, despite the fact that he was the only-the only member of my family I actually loved." Manon's face darkened, and she looked at the floor.

"Yet you still don't tell me what."

"Because there are…fuck it, and fuck them dammit." She looked up at him, a fire in her eyes. "My father was a bastard, a horrible, evil and zealous man. I am not able to fully tell you everything right now, I cannot bring myself to, but Jean…Jean chose my parents over me, in the largest argument my father and I ever had. It was also the last."

Eli frowned. He wanted to say something helpful, but the only thing that came out was, "Oh."

"We were best friends, Eli. The only people we could trust were each other. And he chose them." And you miss him. So bad. Despite everything…

He shrugged. "I don't know what to tell you, then."

"There is nothing you can tell me. I will not be going to coffee with him, ever."

"And that's your choice. I'll be here either way."

She smiled gratefully, relaxing. "Thank you. That means everything."

He gave her a smile back. "I know."

"I, um, assume the girls are coming with us?" She asked after a moment, pulling her phone back out to check the time.

"I figured we would drop them off at that place you were talking about before."

"Oh, that is a great idea!" She typed quickly on her phone. "Renee has been bored out of her mind, almost all of her charges families are on vacation."

He snorted. "She'll have a handful with these two."

She grinned, looking up. "She does love a challenge."

He shook his head and laughed.
