"Crying is always an option. It releases oxytocin and endorphins, which helps to relieve stress and improve the mood. It's healthy to cry."

"That's alright." She sighed gently. "You take as much time as you need to clear your head. If you want me to leave the room then I will, but just know that I am here for you if you need me."

"Well talk to me then, Alex." Her eyes softened. "Nothing good will come from keeping it all in."

"He has made that very clear, but who is amy (the most wonderful woman in the world)?" She asked, trying to make a point, hoping that Alex knew what point she was trying to make.

"The way I see it, you were never amy (the most wonderful woman in the world), you have always been Alexander." She shrugged slightly. "It is very clear that you are Alexander, and I know why your dad feels the way he does. But he is going to have to accept that you are not amy (the most wonderful woman in the world), and that you never were amy (the most wonderful woman in the world). He doesn't have to like it, but he should accept it and not drag you down with his feelings."

"He can't hurt me, I'm a tough cookie!" She waved her hand, almost dismissing Alex's words, although deep down she was secretly terrified of ever meeting his dad.

"Again, I'm a tough cookie!" she said reassuringly. "Perks of having Taekwondo lessons as a kid."

She gently touched Alex's shoulder, frowning. "Has he hurt you before….?"

Her eyes widened in horror. "A-Alex..?"

She stayed silent for a moment, unsure how to respond. She wanted to hug him, but didn't think it was appropriate. She wanted to ask more about it, but didn't think that was appropriate either. For the first time, she was genuinely lost for words to say.

She hesitantly put her arms around him, reaching up to stroke the back of his head, praying that she wasn't making things worse in doing so.

"Just let it all out." she whispered, hugging him tighter.

"Why does what hurt?" she asked, not fully understanding what he meant.

(Wow I'm having war flashbacks..)
"It just means that you've been holding it in for too long. It hurts because the emotion is real, because the cause of you crying is strong and has affected you harder than most things would. Let it all out, I know it hurts, but it's better than keeping it in."

"Alex trust me, just let all your pain and sadness out. Once everything is out you will start to feel calmer and you'll be able to focus better."
