Nicky made a face. "Am I not allowed to compliment my girlfriend?"

"Not during competition," she remarked with a small smile.

"Well I did say paused…so how 'bout a kiss for good luck?" He leaned down, face close to hers.

Her finger traced the trigger as she contemplated the choice. "Uh…"

He leaned just a bit closer, lips just barely brushing against hers. "Well?"

She squeaked quietly. "Uh… c-can't hurt…"

He chuckled, and pressed his lips to hers, gently at first.

He tasted salty and sweet at the same time. She slowly relaxed.

Nicky snaked an arm around her waist, pulling her closer and deepening the kiss a bit.

Laura's heart pounded anxiously when the kiss deepened. Her face felt hot.

He pulled back, grinning. "I'm so, so sorry, sweetheart." And then he sprayed her chest and bolted.

Laura gasped. "Nicky!"

"That's my name!" He was laughing as he ran, and turned to wave, a bright grin on his face.

She shot a jet of water at him and hit him in the back.

"Hey, that's unfair!" He spun around and managed to hit her in the face, still snickering.

She sputtered and turned away. Dammit!

"If it makes you feel better, you girls won. My team sucked ass." He called, just as he was hit with another jet of water, this time courtesy of Renee.

Laura wiped at her face quickly. A snippet of memory flashed through her vision. She gasped and leaned against the house. No, stop it.

Nicky's laughter died down as he made his way back over to her, and his voice was soft when he spoke. "Hey, you alright?"

She closed her eyes and nodded. "I'm fine."

He placed a hand on her shoulder and squeezed gently. "If you're sure."

Her eyes flew open at the touch. "Y-Yeah, I'm sure…"

He nodded, before uncapping his gun and upending it over his head, trying to at least make her smile.

She giggled a little. "I guess that makes up for you almost knocking my eyeball out."

"I did no such thing!" He said dramatically, placing a hand over his chest as though offended.

"Then explain what happened," she challenged.

"I sprayed water in your face. Simple."

She rolled her eyes. "Alright, I get it."

"I'm offering a congratulatory kiss." He stated, leaning forward to kiss her cheek.

She blushed fiercely, but didn't stop him.
