"I hate my eyes," she mumbled, mostly to herself. They were grey and dull. Just like how most people saw her.

"Well now I definitely want to write a song about them." Man, fuck that gene skipping over me.

"You really write songs?" she asked, looking hopeful.

"I can, but they usually suck. I have to be, like, really inspired, and even then it's a tossup. So there's a fifty fifty chance I'm going to make you hate me."

"Oh. That's okay. I'm sure they aren't as bad as you think. I mean, uh… Wait… um…" Dammit, Laura, now you probably made him feel worse.

He snorted. "No, they're bad. I'd show you some, but I legit lit them all on fire. Aaron cried tears of joy."

"Who's Aaron?" she asked stupidly.

"My brother, the one I live with. He's an amazing songwriter, and his band performs all over around here."

"That's cool," she said with a smile. "Maybe you could take me to see them."

"That's a great idea! He's a huge flirt, just to warn you though."

"Oh, uh, warning accepted?" She rubbed the back of her neck. Dammit Laura…

"If he does make you uncomfortable, you can outright tell him and he'll shut the fuck up, or you can come to me and I can tell him." It was a comment made to make her feel better if needed. "Oh, their drummer is the sweetest chick ever, all quiet and tea and stereotypical hufflepuff, and then she gets out on stage and you're like holy shit."

"Oh, um, yeah. That sounds… cool." He seemed to know an awful lot about the drummer… DAMMIT LAURA!

"She's so small, too. It's funny, because my sister is like super tall, so watching the two of them together is just…it's just such a height difference." Nicky didn't seem quite aware of his ramblings, but he was fully prepared to gush about every single member of the band.

"Mhm!" The drummer… I SAID DAMMIT!

"Oh! Speaking of, how would you suggest setting two people up? Should I just lock them in the supply closet? The tension is killing me. Every time Renee, that's my sister, comes over and the band is practicing, there are all these 'stolen' glances, and longing looks and shit." He pursed his lips as he thought.

"Uh, I don't know…" _Dammit.

"Maybe I should just lock them together in a closet…in any case, the bassist, Ricardo, he's up next. Super tough looking guy, like the kinda guy you wouldn't want to pick a fight with. He's scary, but he's super protective of anyone he considers worthy of protecting, like the band." Nicky gestured excitedly with his hands as he talked a bit too much. "Aaron said that one time there was this creep hitting on Lily, the drummer, extensively at one of their gigs, and Rico threatened to kill the guy when he got too hands on."

"Oh…" Laura listened willingly, fiddling with her bracelet.

"Mitchell is the key board player, and he's a huge nerd. Can come off as cold at first, but he's a good guy. I'm probably boring the hell out of you, aren't I?"

"N-No," she stammered. "It's fine. I like listening." Beats talking… DAMMIT LAURA!

"I-uh, have a tendency to over share and over talk sometimes. If it ever gets annoying, just tell me." He tugged a hand through his hair and laughed, a bit embarrassed.

"No, not at all. I really don't mind," she assured him.

"I don't think I will," she remarked. A sort of… sad smile painted her face. "Go on. Mitchell?"

Nicky noticed how off the smile was, but the only thing he could think of to do was distract her. "Super smart, total nerd. He's studying to be a physicist, too!"

"That's cool," she said softly.

"Yeah, they're all like a family to me. Y'know, even though two of 'em are related to me."

She nodded. "Cool…"

"You'll fit right in with the dynamic, honestly." He smiled brightly.
