She didn’t let him go. She couldn’t; not yet. So she kept him in her arms and prayed he returned the hug. Just like he used to.

She laughed, a sound escaping her lips from deep within her chest. It felt good to feel okay again.

“Not if I have anything to do with it,” she replied with a warm smile. The sun was on her face, and her eyes were gleaming in the light.

“Hmph,” she said and scrunched up her face. Then she leaned her head back and let her face collect the warmth of the sun. “I’m pretty good at that sort of thing,” she said after a pause.

“Yeah, well, that’s all over bud.”

She raised her eyebrows at him. “Um, we just left practice, hence us walking down the hallway together. . .”

“Well, where did you want to eat this afternoon? You asked me earlier to eat with you, but you didn’t say where.”

“Wanna go to the pizza place down the street then?” She asked. She could seriously go for stuffing her face with warm bread, cheese and bacon. She’s probably break out after but she was so done at this point.

“What would you rather do?” Honestly, it was like this guy kept forgetting that they used to be best friends. He hadn’t changed that much; she could still tell he didn’t really wanna go get pizza.

She huffed, then pushed his shoulder. “You can be so difficult sometimes, I swear.”
The walked down to the small little mom and pop pizza place that was a few blocks away from the school. Piper was a relatively regular customer, so when she walked in, the employees greeted her by name.

“Mhm, even though I shouldn’t. Don’t tell our dance teacher that I come here; she’ll be angry.” She said with a mischievous smile. “But I say, as long as she doesn’t find out, who cares? When I’m hungry, I gotta eat.”

She gave him a huge smile and nodded her head. “Yep, with sausage and ham and lots of cheese. What about you, what do you want?”

Piper waved the worker over and ordered her mini pizza and drink, then she gestured to Tanner.
