"I can text my mom. She lives on the other side of the block," Chicago unlocked her phone, only to find she had no wifi/internet connection. I just put new minutes in yesterday! "It won't let me text or call. It's an iPhone 8. What kinds do you all have? Let's try everyone's."

"um, my phone died like a few hours after i got here…" he replied

@Sugar-Lover

“iPhone 5, fully charged since I don’t use it much. I don’t know how charged everyone’s phone is but we should at least keep one charged.” Violet pulled out her phone walking towards Chicago.

When the girl got up, Otis felt stupid Well, how the frick should I know that she wasn't half dead?

He didn't answer, instead he walked to the back of the library and sat there, alone.

Chicago turned to Owen reluctantly. "It died a few hours after you got here? You're one of those people who comes to play phone games in peace and quiet, aren't you? Unbelievable."

"um no, i was here to read. It died after I texted my mom." he glared

@Sugar-Lover

“Does one text take that much power?”

"It was at one percent when i got to the library. I never charged it last night"

Happy that Violet was siding with her, Chicago continued. "You didn't charge it last night. It's. . ." checks phone "7:15. You didn't go on your phone all day?"

"I only used for a little while on the bus to listen to music. And why do you care about my battery usage?"

@Sugar-Lover

“Because each of our phones batteries represents how full we are mentally. And since yours is dead your mental thinking capacity is closer to being dead.”

Otis overheard a girl saying that "our phones batteries represents how full we are mentally". Wow…

"Woah, slow down!" Chicago exclaimed, jumping back at Violet's comment. "We care because in the end, it's the little things that will help us, and the little things that will ensure we die here."

"Thanks for that comment."

@Sugar-Lover

“What I mean is if we mindlessly let ourselves use our time for our phones there will be less time for other things. The more we use our phone the less battery it has, so therefore we’re closer to being enslaved to technology.”

"I barely use my phone thank you very much." he replied

@Sugar-Lover

“Then how is it dead?”

group
@Knight-Shives group

"Well i just forget about it and just not charge it. it wasn't only last night i didn't charge it."

Chicago elbowed Violet. "Mmhmm. Right. Let's go."

@Sugar-Lover

“Ow, What was that for?”

Otis worked up his courage to go over and be with the others. If I'm gonna be stuck here all night, I might as well have some company.

He walked over,and while what little courage he had was mustered up, he said "D-does anyone have any food? If we're gonna be here all night, we might as well have something to eat. I have half a can of Keebler's cookies, but they're probably almost stale. A-anyone else?" He immediatly fell silant. I probably sounded super bossy…

@Sugar-Lover

Violet looked over at the young boy who talked. “I always have goldfish.”

Chicago smiled warmly. "I have bagels of assorted flavor. Dibs on the Lucky Charms one!"

Otis smiled. Maybe I could make some friends! he thought. "Why do you have bagels?"

"There is a vending machine over there." he pointed to the employee only room.

"Oh, good point. Who has money?" Otis said. "We'll probably be fine, but just in case…"

"or i can unlock it." he told him

"I have bagels because. . . Well, I'm not sure, actually," she smiled. "I also have $105 dollars."

"Alright then. Wait, do you actually have a KEY to the vending machine?"Otis asked, then fell silent because he realized that he was rambling.
