Michael wiped his eyes. "I um. I can see you. Ish. I can see Lavender. I can see the bed. I can see that fish or whatever under the glass. And I can sort of see that painting on the wall. Happy?"

Lavender sighed, sitting down on the edge of the bed.

Michael sniffled. "I-I'm sorry for freaking out. You didn't need to see that."

“It’s fine, and I think I freaked out more than you.” She swallowed. “I have a fear of fire. I’m a cyborg, it would melt my parts.” Also it’s a torture device.

He smiled a little at her. "Boy, in that case you wouldn't wanna meet S-Samandriel. Fire is his thing."

“Who’s that?”

"Another guardian. He's a jerk. He keeps trying to passive-aggressively kill me because he's allied to another jerk who wants me dead." He looked down at the glass tank of his floor. "I'm not exactly the favorite among a lot of people."

She snorted. “Aren’t we all?”

Michael laughed a little. "Yeah, but I'm pretty sure your entire species doesn't hate you. I'm a universal laughing stock and I don't really even remember what I did."

Lavender fell quiet for a moment . “A deranged Faerie cult hates me, but I don’t thibk that counts.”

Michael made a fake gagging sound. "Eugh. Faeries. Never did any good from what I can tell. At least not any that I've met."

Lavender’s voice was soft. “The Seelie are good. The Unseelie and X are not so good.”

Mozos watched silently, looking to see if everything was okay, then turned to go out the door.
