Hunter passed a smirk at Kenzie, feeling smug.
“Told ya so,” he smirked, reaching out to hit ‘play again’ when his phone rang. Thinking it was either Luna, or Leo (Hunter just remembered he had ditched Leo without warning), but when he checked the caller ID, his carefree expression vanished. A foul look crossed his face and he let the phone ring, tossing it aside.

Kenzie looked at Hunter, concerned. "Who was that?" she asked cautiously.
"No one of importance," Hunter muttered, trying to keep his tone in check. "Let's continue playing."
"Oh. Okay. If you're sure," Kenzie said, searching Hunter's face. He didn't look happy, but she didn't know what to do for him. Gently setting her remote down on the couch, she sat next to him and rested her head on his shoulder. "You know you can tell me anything, right?" she whispered. "I-I mean… Not that you have to tell me, but… ya know… if you want to…"
Matthew relaxed against the rim of the tub. "Oh my God… I am so sorry," he said bringing his palm to his face.
"I wouldn't be surprised if you hate me now."
"Why would I hate you?" Luna asked laughing. "I'm pretty sure you just saved me from my own pit of despair." she says with a smile.
(I'm sitting in one of the worst spots in my house… I'm currently being blinded by the sun coming through the one window that doesn't have blinds. Ugh.)

(coughs Was that a Princess Bride reference?)

(No, I just thought of that off the top of my head. That's in the Princess Bride? Really?)
(I didn't know… wow… I'm so clueless lol.)
(I didn't know… wow… I'm so clueless lol.)
(Lol. I just know a lot of quotes from that movie, so don't be surprised.)
"Why would I hate you?" Luna asked laughing. "I'm pretty sure you just saved me from my own pit of despair," she says with a smile.
"I just kissed you, and you don't even know who I am," Matthew said laughing.

(I moved, so it's all good now… ;P)
"Oh well, it's ok. What's done is done. At least we didn't meet just now in the hot tub." Luna joked playfully punching his arm.
Hunter fell silent for a while.
"It's nothing, don't worry about it," he said, forcing a smile on his face. "So, uh, about that car accident you were in… do you want to talk about it?"
Kenzie blinked a few times and bit her lower lip. She cleared her throat and quietly spoke, "Well… My dad… uh… he was kind of an… alcoholic. One night, in the middle of winter, he was drunk. I had been spending the weekend with him 'cause my mom would let me visit him every once in a while. Well… He, uh, decided that it would be fun to just… um… go on a car ride. But, being drunk, that obviously wasn't the best idea." She laughed a little darkly, lifting her head and turning away so that Hunter couldn't see the tears that were forming in her eyes. "We were on the freeway, it was icy, my dad decided to speed, we slid, went into the ditch, and I woke up in the hospital. What a memory for a ten-year-old, huh?"
(Wow… I'd seriously like to see Hunter's reaction to that bit of information.)
Hunter wrapped his arms around Kenzie, pulling her towards him. She was trembling slightly, and if there was anything Hunter knew about Kenzie at this moment, it was that she was crying. Hunter never wanted to punch someone as much as he wanted to punch Kenzie's father for putting her through such a thing.
He cupped her face and softly kissed her eyes.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that," he whispered. "I promise you, I will never do that to you."
A few tears slipped down Kenzie's face, landing on Hunter's shirt as she rested her head on his shoulder.
"It's okay. I'm fine, really. I haven't even seen him in over six years…" she trailed off, thinking about her father. Whispering, she admitted, "He did love me, though. Honestly. He just… didn't always make the best decisions…"
"I know a thing or two about bad decisions," Hunter joked, trying to lighten up the mood. "Do you want to see your dad?"
Kenzie bit her lip.
Do I? He hasn't even tried to see me after the order for protection was lifted. Maybe he doesn't want to see me… her thoughts trailed off, and a soft sob escaped from between her lips. But… Yes, I do… She nodded, and a few more tears rolled down her cheeks.
(That's sad. Why do these things always happen? I can't speak for all authors, but I'm very stubborn about a character's personality and their life before the book takes place. Mostly it's tragic, but I do have some that aren't. Why I do that? I honestly dunno.)

(Phew, thank goodness, I'm not the only one)
Hunter hugged Kenzie tighter, rubbing her back softly as an attempt to comfort her. He didn't say anything, just held on to Kenzie as she cried.

(Yeah, I did. Also, I will be very stubborn about how Luna reacts to Jasmine and even though I know I can control Luna, she has a very specific personality which I won't change no matter what.)

Kenzie silently cried, held in Hunter's caring arms, for a few minutes. Thoughts raged through her mind about her father: how he used to hug her tight before she left after their weekend was over, how he used to tease her about her obsession with books, the little surprises he'd always get her when she visited him.
