Caleb put his forehead on the edge of the bed and started crying, shaking his head. "I-if not with you, th-then not wi-with anyb-body…"
lizzie nodded "yeah," she ran the name through her head, knowing she had heard that name before
Briar kissed his head stroking his hair "Caleb you'll find someone".
Caleb cried. "No. Never. There's only y-you… I only w-want you…"
"caleb im sure there's someone out there".
Caleb sharply looked at her with wild eyes. "I don't think you understand. When you left, I nearly killed myself 13 f-ing times! I wanted so badly to know what I did wrong, why you didn't love me anymore. I finally stopped trying to kill myself because I was a coward, I tried to move on. I tried to date other girls, other women, but I always recoiled from the idea of being with someone else. I tried to get past you, but you were always there, always on my mind! I loved you, even if you didn't love me. I just… I just snapped. I started off small. Pickpocketing, shoplifting, that sort of thing, hoping- praying- that I could forget you. It escalated to complete and udder murder but I-" He finally broke again, face burying into the mattress, sobbing outright now.
Lizzie stard at the man, finally being able to recall why his name sounded familiar "you're my mom's…you're my…"

Caleb choked out, "I thought you had… It hurt… It hurt so much…"
"I never meant to hurt you" she said.
Caleb clutched at his chest. "When I heard that I had a daughter… I wanted to just die right then and there. I thought you didn't think me worthy enough to have a family of my own… a home to call my own…"
she kissed his cheek "you were always my home".
Caleb took a deep, shuddering breath. "And now… I can't have any chance… I don't want to hurt either of you… I'd be being selfish if I made myself a part of your lives… I need to turn myself in, but you do realize what's going to happen to me correct?"
Briar hugged him "I can't let you do that Caleb I love you too much".
Caleb pulled her into his arms, burying his face into her hair, breathing in the never-forgotten smell of her. "I can't let myself be alive after what I've done…"
"Please Caleb I need you Elizabeth needs you" she shispered.
Caleb held her tighter. "You two seem to have got on just fine without. All I'll do is hurt you…"
"Your hurting me right now".
Caleb let go quickly, backing off. "See? This is exactly why-"
"Your hurting me when you hurt yourself".
She watched as the two embraced with a smile
Caleb looked up at Elizabeth and held out an arm, whispering "Come 'ere sweetheart…"
Caleb murmured softly to Briar, "Would you feel right harboring a wanted criminal?"
"caleb I wanna be with you" she wgispered.
Caleb clutched her close. "And I wanna be with you. … I don't want to be left alone again…"
