Backstory: Both parents were monks and worshipped Gods/Godesses inside monasteries and temples, but Kaladin sought worship through exploring the land. So, Kaladin left the house a lot and enjoyed the life he saw and found himself talking to trees and flowers most of the time. Then Kaladin, in hope of bringing more life or at least providing for it, became a surgeon to save more lives. Well, he trained to be a surgeon.
