Magic is banned nearly everywhere, and for a good reason. Decades ago, a group of magic users formed a group and killed half a million people for reasons unknown to anyone else. Since then these people were caught and killed, and the world got rid of magic. Magic users are now forced to hide in the shadows unless they want to be captured by government officials.
Some magic users want their rights back, but it'll be difficult to change minds by fighting back.
People can't learn magic. If you have magical abilities, you are born with magical power in your veins. Most people only know one type of magic, and very rarely some know two. Only a handful of people know three, and usually the third type of magic is very minor.
If a magic user uses their ability too often, they will start to get marks on their skin that showcase their power. For example, someone that uses lighting magic too much might get lightning bolt scars on their body.
