Imperialism

So here's the story-line. I will refer to the empires with numbers, as I do not have names planned out just yet. It will be like the old days, where countries imperialise to gain power. One empire in this RP is exceptionally cruel. The Emperor of imperialising empire (empire 1) takes liking to the Princess of empire # 2, and asks for her hand in marriage. Of course, the princess refuses, and instead lends a hand to the rebellions in Empire1. With his pride wounded, the emperor of empire 1 wages war on the princess, with the hopes of taking the castle in his control with the beautiful princess as his prize.
Empire 2 is still recovering from a rebellion that broke out a few years back, and with their military power declining, they pose no threat to empire 1 and the castle falls to the emperor. The princess and her bodyguard manage to escape the castle, and the Lady swears to take back her empire and her people. She travels around in secret, hoping to find warriors she could seek help from.

Rules are simple;
1) Respect everyone.
2) No controlling another's character unless permitted.
3) Do not kill another's character.
4) Foul language is permitted only to an extent.
5) No superpowers.

She has sun-kissed skin, and wears glasses. Her clothes always consist of something simple and comfortable, but also ladylike, with a dagger she keeps for her safety. She wears a scar on her back from an assassination attempt when she younger.
Personality: she’s kind and soft, always thinking of others before herself. Compassionate and always up for helping those in need. She’s the type who wouldn’t think twice before saving someone, and would not leave anyone behind.
Trivial Information: she has dyslexia. She also doesn’t understand many metaphors, but she’s working on it. Also, she’s extremely terrified of rats.

There were screams of anguish. Everywhere Azalea looked, there was fire, there was blood, there were dead bodies. Bile rushed to her throat and she slammed a hand over her mouth to prevent herself from vomiting.
She heard war cries and the sound of guns firing, people dying. She heard the mad laughter of the commander of the opposing army as his men wrecked havoc upon her beloved empire. Azalea wanted to take up a sword and cut his head, but fear rooted her where she stood. Azalea could faintly hear the shouts of the Royal Guard’s commander, yelling at her to run away, but she could not hear him. She saw the enemy approach her and raise sword to render her unable to escape—

With a gasp, Azalea woke up. Trembling, she wrapped her arms around herself and pulled her knees to her chest, sobbing hysterically. Just yesterday, she was laughing and enjoying with her family. Just yesterday, she only had to fear being unable to come up with plans to defend her empire. Then it all vanished in fires and war. Now here she was, sleeping in a tent, dirty and nowhere to go. All alone. She was all alone, with no hope at all. This realization brought her no comfort, and she shook as more sobs racked through her body. She could faintly hear her father’s voice urging her to run away and to find help, but she was so lost.
What am I going to do?

Nyir had never been a light sleeper. Even less so since the attacks on her home. She'd tried unsuccessfully to sleep earlier in the night, but stress tugged at the corners of her restless mind and pulled her out of unconscious oblivion. She'd dragged herself outside the tent to keep watch. Her eyes narrowed into the darkness, her lips tight.

Soft sobs wafted from the tent and to her ears. Her brows furrowed. She peeked inside, sighing when she caught sight of her young ward, tears flowing down her face. "Princess?" she whispered.
