"I'm a sun of Apollo…. I don't need sunscreen." Nico dives past him for the bottle. "Need it. Desperately."
One on one? (Closed!)
Alison laughed and handed Nico the bottle. "Will, I won't argue with you on that one, but I'd still advise sunscreen." she said.
Will raises a brow as Nico practically drowns himself in the sunscreen.
"I'm a Time Lord. We don't get sunburn." the Doctor scoffed. "Famous last words." Alison muttered.
Nico and Will laughs softly.
Alison spread the towels out onto the ground for the four of them, sitting down. The sun was beginning to set, providing an amazing spectacle. It did so slowly, as if it was molasses.
Will hums softly, gazing out at the ocean and the sunset.
"This is beautiful." Alison said, staring in awe. "I know." the Doctor replied.
Will nods in agreement and sighs softly.
"Doctor, are there beaches on your home planet?" Alison asked. The Doctor remained silent for a few moments. "Yes. Yes, there are beaches. And fields of red grass under a burnt orange sky, with the Citadel of the Time Lords standing high, proud, tall, under a dome of glass. It was beautiful." he sighed.
Will shakes his head sadly and sighs softly.
"What was your planet like?" Alison asked. "That's a story for another time. I would rather not discuss it." the Doctor said harshly.
Nico and Will share a look before Will walks towards the waves. He smiles blissfully.
Alison kicked off her shoes and ran into the water, the waves splashing against her legs.
Will sighs softly, removing his shirt before leaping into the water.
"Kids these days." the Doctor chuckled, looking skyward.
Nico smiles a little as he sits on the towel. "Will and I learned a long time ago that we had to live. We… saw our comrades die… our friends betray us… family disappear…" Nico mutters, "Sometimes… like you or the master or whoever said it, say, 'Our pathetic human brains' can't handle that much stress." he says softly.
I'll be on and off, birthday celebration//
"That was probably the Master, he never was the most fond of humans. I also don't remember saying that. I'm sorry you had to go though all that, it must have been difficult. I've seen people die, I've had to kill. But I got clever. Manipulated people into taking their own lives." the Doctor said bitterly. "The curse of the Time Lords. We live too long. See too much."
Nico chuckles, "I was stuck in a hotel for 50 years…" He sighs softly. "Worst part of my life."
"Better than exile." the Doctor said.
Nico nods. "Yeah. I guess." He whispers softly.
"I wish I could go back home, to look up at the burnt orange sky and know that all is right where I am. But I ran away from duty, and it put me here, in an exile. I am alone in the universe." the Doctor sighed.
Nico smiles a little. "That's what I thought. When I was… Well… Really little I had a sister, Bianca. My world revolves around her… And one day I lost her. I hated the world… I cut myself off and pushed others away from me. Until I met Reyna, Hazel… And most importantly Will." He whispers.
"Remorse is cureless// The disease// Not even God// Can heal// For 'tis their institution// And// The adequate of hell." the Doctor recited. Nico could probably tell by now that Alison wasn't wrong about the poetry.
Nico chuckles softly."True words." He whispers, looking at the ground. "But they forgot to mention that remorse can be halted."
"No, it can't. I regret so many things… if only I could go back in time and change things without causing a paradox and destroying everything I love, everything that gives me hope." the Doctor said.
Nico looks at the other. "Sometimes… We sacrifice so much… To save the ones we care about." He looks at where Will was wading through the water and talking with Alison.
"But I couldn't save them. Couldn't save her." the Doctor said, painful memories flooding back to him.
(Good morning!)
