She highly doubted it would but he seemed so sure. She sighed quietly and stood, taking the spot next to him by the window.

He took her hand gently in his own and looked her in the eyes. His body craved having any kind of closeness with her but he ignored the electric shock to his heart. He slowly pressed her hand to the window and the Kanima put a “paw?” over her hand too.

She resisted the urge to snap her hand away from the window. This was for science. She frowned slightly. She knew it was there but the fact that she couldn't see it was more than a little concerning.

“See. He doesn’t want to hurt you,” he knew the kanima had moved to her even though he hadn’t really stopped looking at her.

"Okay but why is he there in the first place?" She glanced up at him. "It's like the world's strangest guard dog."

"Dying, slowly, like always."

“He’s guarding you or maybe watching you but nonetheless he likes you. It’s just Ryan he shows violence towards and I’m sorry about that, it’s not his fault,”

She chewed on her lip slowly, thinking. "But why? Is it just because they have a history with Convel being alpha of the pack?"

“I don’t think so,” Cooper pulled her hand off the window. “Go away,” he commanded toward the window and the Kanima ran off like he’d never been there at all. “Just tell him to go away if he’s bothering you,” he had a weird amount of control with the lizard.

Her frown deepened. Now she was even more confused. She sighed heavily. "I just wish I didn't have to deal with this now. Stress is bad for the babies."

“Don’t let him be a stressor then. Think of him as a guard dog if you must. He wants to to protect you, he can’t help it,” it seemed like whatever Cooper felt, the Kanima felt too. Protect Belle, harm Ryan, ect.

"Okay, I guess. But here's one thing that's bugging me. How come you two seem to have the same kind of, I don't know, like mindset? Whatever you feel, he feels too. It's like you're connected and it's freaking me out a little."

“Don’t think about it too hard or it’ll never come to you… like I said, he can’t help it,” Cooper sighed and sat on the edge of the bed.
