Sherlock was bored. He was at his most bored in his entire life. Lestrade hadn't sent him out on a case for weeks and nobody had their own cases to consult him with, so he had nothing to do but visit Molly for random body parts most likely severed from murder victims, perform 'Experiments' with John as the main test subject, and practice his aim with a gun on the wall. None of those options sounded appealing at the moment, except for maybe taking it out on the wall.

John had been reading over past blog entries, specifically the “dog one.” He could tell that Sherlock was practically going insane over the lack of action the over the last month. There had been several fingers in the icebox that week alone.
"Bored!" Sherlock shouted, shooting the wall.
John covered his ears and walking into the living room, yelling “Sherlock! I know you’re bored out of your mind, but could you not shoot the damn wall?”
"I am capable of not shooting the wall, however I will not comply with your request." he said.
“Thank you.” John sighed and sat down in his chair. He asked, “Have you found any cases? Even the smallest lead?”
"No, none at all." Sherlock grumbled, shooting the wall again.
