"I suspected as much," Dylan nodded, "But, part of me really wants to talk to him. But our guy, the one commander, said that last time Ashton reported his position, he was on the other side of the world, in China. They have a decently large operation." Dylan shrugged, shifting on his feet uncomfortably, "Odds are, we won't run into him."

Then a thought struck him, and his head shot up.

"Wait a sec. If you had no idea I had ties to the Flame, then why are you so worried about Lenny and I talking? I mean…"

He shut his mouth, then restarted, "Maybe I'm just crazy, but I need to ask you something. I want to make sure I'm not going crazy."

Avery blinked a few times, then opened her mouth to speak. She shut it again, trying to collect her thoughts.

"It's nothing," she assured Dylan with a small shake of her head. "Just… Forget I said anything."

"No, no. I need to confirm this," He said, "My powers. And their connection to my…temperment. Everytime I have gone berserk… you've been there. In the worst cases, you were hurt. It's happened twice now." He walked over and sat on the hood of the car, "I haven't gone cold without you being there."

"O-kaaay… So, what are you saying?" Avery wondered, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "That I'm the reason you get so angry?"

Dylan looked to the ground, smiling, "I guess you could say that. It's just that every time I feel anger, jealousy, hatred, with you around? It gets amplified by… a lot. Or when you're in danger I just…. can't control myself. I nearly ripped Vaughn's throat out earlier just for having a conversation with you."

He shook his head, trying to get the words aligned properly there, "I find you to be… relaxing to be around. I am amazed by the thought you even exist, and I care about you… So I guess that my subconcious, or whatever thing that stone gave me, is amplyfying that to make it to where…" He stopped again, realizing what he had just said aloud.

"You… care about me?" Avery asked, an odd look on her face. Her eyes glittered, and the corner of her mouth twitched upwards.

No way, she pushed aside her hopeful thoughts. It's too good to be true. He can't. He just slipped, he wasn't serious.

Dylan mentally threw his hands in the air.

Forget this. Words fail me not.

But he still struggled to meet her gaze, instead settiling on her ear, which he hoped looked more or less the same to her, "Yeah. I do. And I… I'm worried."

Avery's eyebrows furrowed again. "What? Why?"

Dylan raised his right hand, which glowed slightly at his palm, "Because this has changed me to the point where I can't quite trust myself."

He ducked in to the car and pulled out the blueprint papers, ready to let this conversation be over. Despite finally letting his feelings escape him, he didn't want to scare her. He scared himself.

"Damn me. I'm sorry if I've spoken wrong, Avery," He sighed, "Don't mind me. Perhaps it would be better if I just shut up."

He does care about me, Avery thought in amazement.

"No, it's fine," she assured him, shaking her head slightly. She looked back down at the ground, and, with her voice barely at a whisper, she said, "I care about you, too."

Dylan's head hit the roof of the car, and he cursed quietly to himself. As soon as he recovered, his eyes locked with Avery's, and he found himself nothing to say.

So instead he stated simply, "Ow." And he stared at Avery's eyes.

Avery bit her lip and shook, trying to keep from laughing out loud. Her eyes searched Dylan's face, and she continued to try to hold back her laughter. Soon, though, she couldn't, and she started quietly laughing.

It really wasn't all that funny, but she needed to laugh. The past two days had been too tense, too anxiety-filled.

Dylan, after a while, couldn't help but join in.

It felt good, laughing. He used to laugh all the time with his friends in high school. The whole lot of them had stories that went way back. Laughing with Avery felt similar, though it was more… real? No, his time in high school had been real enough. Honest? Perhaps, though it still didn't feel quite right.

After they settled down, Dylan sighed, leaned over the roof again, and scratched at the spot on his head where he had bumped it, "Heh. I needed that."

"Me, too," Avery sighed, leaning against the car. She tapped a seemingly random pattern on the hood, and the car spat Dylan out. Seeing his face, she didn't even try to hold back her laughter this time. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry," she apologized between laughs, "It was just too good of an opportunity to pass up."

Element looked out the window and smiled. They were all good again it seemed. She sighed and walked out the backdoor, into some woods. "Vaughn, I know someplace in the woods that might have information, so I'm going there." she called out, before closing the door.

“I’ll stay here then, I guess,” Vaughn responded with a sharp sigh. He pushed to his feet and went into the kitchen, seriously wishing that Veronica had brought him something to drink.

Element walked quickly through the woods, making sharp turns every now and then. Her arms were folded tightly against her chest, and she was breathing heavily. Not yet! she thought.

Dylan fell backward, cursing and laughing at the same time, "For fox's sake, Avery!" Laying on the ground still, he vanished and picked himself up, then slid behind the car, reappearing and taking hold of the airplane still in the air. He replicated it, the programmed them to persue Avery, no matter how they ran.

Vaughn’s phone rang, and he glanced down at the number, but didn’t recognize it. He answered it, and recognized Sams voice. “Vaughn!” The boy exclaimed, “guess what!”

Vaughn smiled to himself. “What is it?”

“Daddy picked me up today and he says he has a surprise for me at home!”

Vaughn froze in shock at the mention of Sam’s father. Tha wasn’t possible. His father was dead, he shot him. If this was true, then who was the man that he killed? There was a gruff vice on the other end, telling Sam to put the phone down. “Sam, no, wait!” He shouted, but the call was already killed.

He collected his pistol before bursting outside, ignoring anything Avery or Dylan might say to him as he got into the truck. He started the truck and slammed his foot on the gas, speeding down the road.

Avery turned and saw Vaughn speeding away in his truck. "Vaughn?!?" she exclaimed. She turned to face Dylan. "What the heck is he doing? Where is he going?"

(I’m probably just going to skip what all happened because it’d be pretty terrible to describe.)

Vaughn pulled back up to the cabin about a half hour later. He felt completely numb, and the whole drive back to the cabin he struggled to breathe. He turned the truck off and stepped out. The whole front of his white shirt was drenched in blood, and it stained his hands. But it wasn’t his own blood. He went inside, his expression blank but there were hints of pain in his eyes. He simply stood at the sink, washing his hands off, almost in a shocked daze.

Dylan shrugged, dispelling his airplane attack, "Man's got problems. Give him space."

Avery shook her head. "Fine. Whatever. I can't control what he does. I'm not the boss," she said, mostly to herself.

Element was in a full out sprint now, dashing through the trees. When she finally reached the small, old, wooden house, she fell on her knees. (lol rhyme) She was out of breath! After a recovery, she stood and walked into the space.
(The time when Vaughn comes back)
Element had gone down-stairs, into the actual library part of the house, searching for anything she could on The Flame. She wasn't disappointed. The fact is, their name wasn't The Flame at all. It was a cover up name, and the real one struck up a place in her memory.

Vaughn seemed to scrub at his hands until they were raw and stinging. He looked down at his clothes, suddenly startled by the blood on his shirt. He took in a shuddering breath that almost felt like a gasp as he struggled to take in air. He stumbeled to his room and threw the window open, sinking to his knees next to it, continuing to breathe unhealthily.

( Poor Vaughn! I'd send E to comfort him or something if she weren't in a secret library. And Dylan and Avery saying that they're like they're characters in real life? I'm happy to tell you I do not have the same personality as E. XD )
