"Oh my gosh! What a mess!" I laugh, my purse has fallen and coins are everywhere. But before I can get to it, one of the other girls picks it up. Upside down. My handgun falls out and clatters on to the pavement, and my heart starts racing. Shit. Shit.

@blue_topaz

I step backwards in surprise, doing my best not to panic. The first girl I bumped into looks vaguely familiar, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

@Natasha

Addison handed the other girl back the gun. "I'm guessing you have this for a reason."

@blue_topaz

My eyes widen at the sight of the gun, and my hand instinctively goes to my purse, where my own is hidden.

@ConstanceAtticus

I grab my gun off the pavement and put it back in my purse, not even touching the scattered coins. My eyes are wide, but I'm trying to wipe the surprised expression of my face and keep my cool. "Uh, self defence. and all that." One of the girls looks so familair that now it's pulling at my gut. My instincts are telling me to run.

@Natasha

Addison nodded. "Umm…….I carry one too."

@ConstanceAtticus

I breath a sigh of relief. I could pass this one off as normal and get the hell out of here before they started asking questions.

@Natasha

Addison turned to go into the salon. "Well, I guess I'll be going."

@ConstanceAtticus

I still felt like I owed an explanation. Something to keep them from leaving this incident as something to remember. "Wait! I'm Cheyenne. Cheyenne Denali." I catch the girl's wrist, giving her a fake name. "I'm sorry to scare you like that."

@Natasha

Addison turned to the other girl who said her name was Cheyenne. She didn't buy it but understood. So she followed along. "Ruby. Ruby Reagan."

@Natasha

"And you didn't scare me."

@ConstanceAtticus

I shake both their hands, and then cast a warm smile. "I just got bussed in from Rome, working the night shift as a waitress. I'd be happy to know some people here, just in case. Who are you too?"
There was a reason for this. I wanted the familiar girl's name. It was pulling too hard at my gut that I knew her, and if she told me her name either I could place it or I couldn't. On the off chance that she lied, I knew I'd have something to either be worried about or relieved with.

@ConstanceAtticus

(nvm had to load comments lmao)

@ConstanceAtticus

"It's nice to meet you Ruby."

@Natasha

"You too……….Cheyenne." Addison answered.

@ConstanceAtticus

I smile, and then continue on my way down the street. Down one way lanes and cobblestones, I find my way into the outskirts of the city, where it's less crowded and less english-speaking. I was worried about that Ruby girl, and her friend who'd caught me outside the salon. I had a feeling that I knew the other girl from Verona, and that I had something to worry about here.

@blue_topaz

I shoot a glance at Ruby. “Hi. I’m Samantha.”

@Natasha

"Ahm……………………………my name's not actually Ruby. And I know that you name is not Samantha. You running from your family too????"

@blue_topaz

I tuck a strand of hair behind my ear, scrunching my brow and lying convincingly. “What?” I fake a British accent. “Mate, I’m a tourist.” I take a step back, pretending to be wary. “What do you mean, that’s not your real name? Running from someone? Are you out of your mind?!”

@Natasha

Addison sighed. "Suit yourself. Your accent's off by the way." Then she walked into the salon.

@blue_topaz

I stand there, unsure whether to be angry or scared. Saking it off, I glance the way the other girl had gone. Why had she seemed so familiar? Judging by the look in her eyes, she'd recognized me too.

@ConstanceAtticus

I heard the sound of someone following me distantly and ducked under a corner into the shadow of a building. Whoever was tailing me didn't seem too concerned with making sure I didn't notice. I peek back around the corner and find that one of the girls from a few minutes ago, the familiar one, was following me. I knew I had something to worry about. I load my gun and tuck it away but within reach, and then step out into the sunlight.
"You." My eyes narrow. "You're following me."

@ConstanceAtticus

"Who are you? I know that I know you. What are you? A Montague? A Capulet?"

@blue_topaz

I notice the gun instantly, but smile fakely and brush past her and into the alley, indicating for her to follow. My fists are clenched as I finger my pistol.

@ConstanceAtticus

I follow warily, sticking to the darkest part of the shadows, closer to the mouth if I had to run- or shoot. "Tell me your name, mio nemico. Your real name."

@blue_topaz

"Adelaide Capulet, daughter of Lorrenzo Capulet. The leader of the Capulets. I'm guessing you're a Montague?", I reply coldly, bringing out my gun and studying it threateningly. I know she has me backed up against the back of the alley, but what she doesn't know is that I'm wearing a thin bulletproof vest under my sweater.

@ConstanceAtticus

I sneer. A Capulet, then. "Oakley Montague, daughter of Sebastien Montague, Mafia Boss of Greater Verona." I steady my hold on my gun, ready to shoot for the leg or shoulder if I had to. The goal here wasn't lethality, it was memory. "You'll remember this day as the day you escaped with your life, mio nemico, Adelaide. I'm not here for you."

@ConstanceAtticus

My father had always taught me to shoot for morgue tags. The truth was that I'd never killed, and never planned on it. Had to drag a couple unconcious people into broom closets, had my share of bruises because of it. But I'd never kill on purpose.

@blue_topaz

Without missing a beat, Adelaide raised her own gun, looking the Montague dead in the eye. "You really want to take the chance and shoot?", she challenged. "I'm not here for you either, but I could be if you don't drop the gun."

@ConstanceAtticus

"Tell me, Adelaide, have you ever killed anyone?" I sigh dramatically. "Go on. Surprise me." The crazy glint in my eyes returns, the one that I'd inherited from my mother. I was willing to play defense until it looked like a hell of an offense.
