Basic Appearance: Dark brown hair. His skin is rather light for working in the fields all his life, but that is just one of his physical oddities. His eyes, for one, are different colors (heterochromia). The eye on his left is brown, the one on his right is gray-green.
His is around 5'7. Very sturdy looking. His thick, dark eyebrows add to his almost-always sullen appearance
He wears ratty, dark gray pants that are frayed at the bottom. A faded blue, thin cotton shirt protects his back from the sun, but not the heat.
Personality: He's often seen as sullen and angry, but that is mostly his appearance. He does smile, a lot, but usually only around family and his sole friend. He hates working in the sun, in the hot fields, but that is what he's been forced to do all his life.

Skills: Physical Strengths:
- Strength: Working in the fields all his life, wielding heavy scythes and pitchforks, and heaving over his shoulders hefty hay bales, has kept him rather fit and strong. It also has built up his physical endurance.
- Good eyesight: the sun hasn't damaged his vision as badly as it has for some people.
- Exceptional hearing.
- He can swim (According to maps/etc. district 9 is located near the Great Lakes, so Maize has had practice.)
- He can be uncannily quiet.
- He can usually stay calm in scary/stressful situations.
Physical Weaknesses:
- A childhood sickness, plus lack of sufficient vitamins, has led to weak lungs; running for long periods of time is difficult.
- He gets worried at the slightest noise (although he doesn't become paranoid).
Mental Strengths:
- As listed above, he can remain calm in scary/stressful situations.
- He has great perseverance; in hopeless situations he'll 'keep on keeping on.'
- Due to playing in dead and dried up corn mazes his whole childhood, he has a good sense of direction; he'll know if he's been somewhere before, etc.

- Psyches himself out sometimes, whether it's in the dark, or at unidentified, slight noises.
Backstory: Born into a large, destitute family, he knows what it is like to not eat for three or four days at a shot. He was forced to leave school at the age of 14 due to the fact that his mother was pregnant and very ill, and therefore unable to work. With only his father bringing in a small amount of food, Maize had to leave school so the family could continue living off of two "salaries"
