Havenwood yawned heavily again and perked up suddenly when he heard small scamperings of a small animal disturbed.

Havenwood scrambled out of the ditch as more animals scampered away from her stop. He himself started running, not responding to Elise. She might've been telling the truth, but those animals don't lie, either. Something was coming his way.

Elise saw Havenwood getting up from her hiding spot in a burrow of some animal. As soon as he was out of sight, she scrambled out (it could have been a badger for all she knew) and ran in the opposite direction. She couldn't beat him to the house no matter how hard she tried, so she might as well find a better hiding spot.
