Screech?//
(Here it is, sorry for the delay!)
It was another sunny day in Copiae, the sky a clear blue decorated by wispy clouds, the sun warming the white sand that made up the coastline. Crowds of people, all dressed in colourful swathes of fabric, bustled around, laughter and music hanging in the air. At the docks, line upon line of ships were anchored down, waiting for their inhabitants to return.
The people moved in generally continuous groups, but there was a slight traffic in front of a particular ship where they lingered a little longer, staring up in mild awe. The ship was made out of a smooth, medium toned wood, was of average size, and sported a smaller crew than most. The words βThe Wandererβ were carved across the size and inked in shimmering gold letters. But it was not any of those that drew the eyes of the citizens.
The ship was gorgeous. Incredibly detailed, artistic carvings curved up the mainmast, not etched into the wood, but almost growing out of it. The same markings decorated the front and back of the ship, and a mermaid, wild and fierce, was curled around the bowsprit. Playing in the waves beside the ship was a creature of blue-green serrated scales and sharp spines, a gaping maw from which sprouted rows of gleaming teeth. It was normal for a pirate ship to have a sea-dwelling companion, but this? This was a monster.
Perched on the starboard side of the ship, a tanned woman with a brown tricorn hat scanned a newspaper, her blonde hair spilling over her shoulders. Oblivious to the milling crowdβ sheβd learn to block it outβ she frowned slightly at the headlines, swinging her legs.
Quick question. Should I start off with Kydah's exile or start her off aftr it?//
Up to you, but seeing the exile would be cool
Iβll post a passage for my second character after someone else has gone
I shallβ¦//
Awesome :)
(That was an amazing starter topaz!)
Finley had been rushing around the small infirmary once againβ a place where she spent most of her time on the shipβ continuing to organize new medicinal herbs and pills that they had picked up from the docks in Barne. Their seemed to be much more this time, lining the wooden walls of the small office, but the apothecary's and doctors in Barne always tended to find new diseases or colds to prevent.
Where does the thistle go again? she thought to herself before her thoughts were interrupted by a voice behind her.
"We've reached Copiae," another dark haired crew member spoke up behind her, motioning towards the stairs leading to the deck. "There might be a few markets that you can look through."
Finley nodded in understanding before she placed one last small, glass jar on the shelf, grabbed her leather bound notebook and preceded to head upstairs. She was greeted by the warm sun of the island's weather as she brushed a small strand of dark hair behind her ear, determined to experience as much as this weather as possible. She was usually too cooped up in the infirmary to come out on the deck anyway. Not before long, Finley noticed a brown, tricorn hat, recognizing the long, wavy blond hair from under it as she began to make her way towards the other woman.
(Thanks Nessie! You too)
Marianne turned her head at the sound of footsteps, strands of sun-bleached hair falling across her line of vision. A smile appeared on her face when her eyes fell on the shipβs doctor, Finley, and she folded the newspaper shut. βHey, Finley,β she greeted, swinging her legs back over the side of the ship and onto the deck. Barefoot as usual, she stood. βHave you seen these headlines?β
Kydah's powerful tail cut through the water, her spear strapped to her back as she swam. She gave a small laugh as she felt the exhilaration of the streaming water. She stopped when she came upon a village, this was the village they were supposed to stop at. This is where the Mer military has a base? This puny little town? She thought with a raised eyebrow.
Kydah shrugged, giving a sigh as she undid her spear. She had arrived late, having stopped to hunt on the way. She swam into town, her keen eyes looking over the town as she tried to spot one of her tribemates. Aha! Found ya! She said in her mind, reeling back as she entered the small alleyway where she saw her tribemate and⦠A dead child⦠"Merrian! What is going on?!" She whisper yelled, pulling her friend away from the dead child to which she was stabbing. "Kydah! Let me do this!"
"Headlines?" Finley questioned as she made her way towards Marianne, glancing down towards the newspaper in her hand. She occasionally read the papers, though most of the time she barely had time to.
(Love the intro, Lex!)
(Is this a Uada or Prae settlement? If it were Alcyoneum it would be super close to the shore, which might not work for now)
Not sureβ¦ I was planning on having a time skip for her and end up washed up on the shore next to the Wandererβ¦//
"No!" Kydah said, batting away Merrian's hand when she tried to reach for the child. "This child was innocent! There was no reason to kill him!" She said, her vision going red. "I'm going to call the leader!" Kydah said just as one of the tribe leaders swam into view and gave a gasp of horror upon seeing Kydah holding a dead child. "Kydah!" The leader screamed, taking a deep breath before saying something in a commanding voice. "Kydah, you are now exiled from the tribe for murdering an innocent in cold blood. Leave."
Marianne tilted the paper towards her crew mate, chewing on her bottom lip. The headlines were written across every page in bold, black writing, bearing concerning news.
Ghost ship spotted off the coast of Frala!
Citizens off the coast of Eris report children gone missing!
The headlines only got worse. Whispers of weapon-bearing Sirens travelling down from their settlements, sailors lured into the water and devoted in the night. Meanwhile, a huge ghost ship has been sighted, and a malevolent one at that. The crew of The Wanderer had dealt with a ghost ship before, but a small one, mostly passive and easy to live past. But this? This was a threat.
Olena bit her tongue in concentration, sliding the final pearlescent bead onto a thin strand of her hair. Finally. It had taken her hours to rearrange the colourful pattern from the traditional design to one of her own, a sign of her growing importance within the pod.

Sure, but letβs wait a little for that
Maybe she can interact with one of the Mer first?
"Aβ¦ghost ship? Larger than the ones we've fought before?" Finley asked, glancing up towards Marianne for conformation before she looked back down towards the bolded font. Perhaps she could ask around on the island for anything that could protect the sailors and the crew from the siren's powerful voices.

She's now exiled so she can pretty much do whatever.//
Marianne nodded in affirmation. βAnd I doubt its a hoax, itβs much too big. And the Sirensβ¦.β She trailed off, glancing over the side of the ship and into the clear waters. βThat could be a problem. Weβll have to notify everyone on the ship.β Below, their companion sea monster played with the waves, frightening off a seagull.

When @themarvelousmoony gets on maybe we can do an interaction scene between the three of our sea characters?
Sure~//
Kane bounded up the steps from below deck, taking a deep sniff of the air as he emerged. He leaned over the side of the side of the ship, surveying the docks, and ran a hand through his salty hair. He walked over to Finley and Marianne and nodded to each of them in greeting. βHey Finley. Capitain. Are we good to go down to the docks?β
βHey, Kane,β Marianne greeted, removing her hat to shake out her hair. She tossed the article to him, a troubled expression displayed across her features. βRead the papers first..β Sighing, she turned and leaned over the side of the ship to check on the shipβs companion, Suar. The sea monsterβs head emerged from the frothy waves, tongue lolling excitedly from his mouth.
(How should I start off my traveler?)
Chesh walked up beside Captain Marianne. Her hair blew in the wind as she looked over at Captain. Marianne looked concerned. "Is everything alright Captain?" Chesh asked. "You look troubled." She looked over at Kane. "Looks like someone's excited to be docked." She said laughing.
