Fairly tan, but often appears paler or pinkish. His mother was very pale-skinned and he inherited her tendency to burn before tanning.

Muscular upper body, but with an overall gangly appearance. He appears as if caught in the middle of a growth spurt that only gave the message to one half of his lanky frame.

Often quiet and observant. When he speaks, Walter often tries to do so with purpose and with his idea of how a Real Man (his own fantastical construct) would speak like, but tends to falter. Walter has limited stamina for feigning confidence. His voice cracks sometimes, and after the fact his anxiety is prone to spiking.

Grief, manipulated emotions, love for his mother, yearning for a father, yearning to make his father proud, a desire to be a good man, and revenge.

Walter Avery is, though he doesn't believe himself to be, naive. He calls himself a man, but is a boy. He considers himself just as wise as the adults around him. He's lived a sheltered life, and as a result is a little bit racist, a little bit wondrous, and a great deal curious. At first, he can't place what it is that stops him from crying, but it comes out soon enough.

Raised alone by his mother in a secluded cottage in the woods, Walter Avery's biggest adventures growing up were found in fictional stories. Every week he and his mother would venture into town to buy groceries and sell milk and eggs, and most weeks he would pick up a new book to take home with him.
